The 1941 analysis described the remains belonged to a male around 5'5.5".
Why does that measurement amuse me so much? It's five and a half but also a half of the half.

Or intersexed. One of the things I've tended to get a bit twisted over is the idea in archaeology/anthropology that a skeleton is definitely male or female based solely on it's measurements...that said, we've actually been pretty sure where Earhart crashed now for some, oh, 80 years. I think that it's just one of those 'mysteries' that people keep perpetuating that really doesn't exist any more.

Paul Allen seems to be making a habit of this: His expedition has now found the wreckage of the USS Lexington in the Coral Sea. Go Paul.

Just remember, Hawking was never- ever- ever supposed to live this long. He really did have a long and unexpected life.

And it was all possible because of NHS.

Yira, not even the NHS can work miracles. They certainly helped to improve and extend his life, but even there, the best case scenario is five to ten years. Hawking lived 50 years longer than anyone expected.

In a bit of odd addition to this. I discovered that the Star Trek Online game has a virtual memorial to all the people who have worked on the television series, and they update it regularly. So, Hawking will be added to the list.

I've always been of the opinion that Hawking was a genius MinMaxer.

Before birth, he talked with God, and told Him he wanted to become the greatest physicist of all time. And God said: "Ok, but you only have limited Generation Points, to balance this, you get a terrible disease and die at 30!"

And Hawking thought: Nahhhh, that's maybe a bit too much. "How about I become maybe not the greatest, but one of the greatest physicists of all time, mentioned in the same sentence with Newton and Einstein. What would be the balance for that?" And God muses on this and replies: "Same horrible disease, but you'll live as long as a typical person. You'll be confined to a wheelchair and dependet on technology and other people for everything, though."

"Deal!"

Rest in peace, Stephen. You were, indeed, one of the greatest, and I was hoping you'd never die. *salute*

There's a study hypothesizing that a red dwarf passes by the Oort Cloud. Or in it. No promises, naturally, that it actually happened but it's interesting.

There has been speculation that there was another planet out beyond Neptune/Pluto and that it could be a red dwarf or a gas giant for some time now. It seems the evidence it growing that it might actually be there :-)

In other red dwarf related news....Red Dwarf S13 is in preproduction and will definitely be happening according to Doug Naylor.
