I started telling environmentalists who talk about 'saving the world' that we're not saving the world. The Earth will go on no matter what humanity does. Life will be hard for the evolving animals, but eventually the Earth will repopulate. We're trying to save humanity from extinction, and that's the harder thing to do.

HA, Chancellor of Reunification misses alot of the things fucked up, like workers rights, lying in court and such stuff.
Personly i dont miss him that much, but i am curious how the vultures will fuck up his memories.

Sort of related, a tourist father-son duo ended up dying hiking near the national park here. They haven't said for sure why but getting lost in 100 degree weather would do it. It may be dry heat but it can still be deadly.

Here in Vermont, we're expecting our first crop of peaches any year now...before now, it was too cold and the growing season was too short for peach trees to survive, let alone bear fruit. Oh, and we've been growing wine grapes and rice now too.

No heat related deaths lately, though. Just some people who don't know not to swim after the spring floods.

Hm, no commentary yet on how Germany has now attained equal marriage rights, but chancellor Merkel voted "no" herself??

It didn't exactly get any coverage in the States. Not that I'm paying much attention to the news lately.

Still, it's wonderful to see Germany moving forward on the issue. And I'm glad that Merkel allowed for a free vote on this one.

As of this story 25 states have said either" We cannot legally comply with at least parts of your requests" or "Piss up a rope you bastard"

I am happy for Germany. It's nice when the majority can actually have a say in things. I mean, we've been pretty vocal here but sometimes it doesn't seem like it's doing much. So it's nice to see it happening elsewhere.

"When I was young, there was one girl I drew; one body and face and hair. It was my idea of what a girl should be. The perfect woman. And when I got out of the Army, somebody, a cousin of mine, knew a model, a hat model at a place called Laden Hats. He said, 'Stan, there's this really pretty girl named Betty. I think you’d like her. She might like you. Why don’t you go over and ask her to lunch.' Blah, blah, blah.
"So I went up to this place. Betty didn’t answer the door. But Joan answered, and she was the head model. I took one look at her — and she was the girl I had been drawing all my life. And then I heard the English accent. And I’m a nut for English accents! She said, 'May I help you?' And I took a look at her, and I think I said something crazy like, 'I love you.' I don’t remember exactly. But anyway, I took her to lunch. I never met Betty, the other girl. I think I proposed to [Joan] at lunch.”
