Political Compass

Post by cyanide_sweet »

I took this test which charts where you are from left wing to right wing and from authoritarian to libertarian. I just thought it would be interesting to see where some of you guys show up! Disclaimer: Please don't get into huge arguments about political parties, this is just about positions on separate issues.

Link to take the test: http://www.politicalcompass.org/test

Here's my result. The big red dot is me, the smaller ones are my friends who have also taken the test. The interesting thing is that one of my friends overlaps me exactly:

And just for interest, here's one showing different contemporary leaders:

I'm only halfway through it, and I already have a major problem with it - the lack of a 'no particular opinion' option.
I swear I will, I'll make you smile.

It appears that I am rather conservative compared to most of you!

Well, I can't post my graph, but I'm DEEP into the bottom left quadrant. No surprise there.

[Edit - To be specific... If you drew a vertical line through Mandela, and a horizontal line through the Dalai Lama, I'd be just about where they cross.]

Why can't you post it? Right click it, select 'Properties', and copy the URL of the .png image. Then paste it here, and add IMG tags around it...

I first ran into that site years ago. As with all such sites, the way they tend to ask the questions often colors the responses and skews the results, but it's useful to get people to realize that political positions aren't just a left/right thing -- you can get a better picture of someone's positions if you take into account more dimensions. Personally, I think two axes aren't enough either, but it's better than the single highly skewed axis people seem to want to pigeonhole others into.

Me, I show up right on the vertical axis, about halfway down from the center towards the bottom "Libertarian" edge.

The only ptoblem with more dimentions, is that you can't display more than 2 in an easy manner.

Oh, the problem's not with me - I know how to do it, normally. The board software just keeps throwing up an error ('it is not possible to determine the dimensions of this image') when I try.

I saved-as and uploaded it as an attachment...that seems to have worked okay for me.

Yeah, but that's way too much of a pain in the tush, when I can just describe my location. :-B
