Not sure if I should post this here or in the Things I Desire thread...

Today, in a big electronics store, I found the Hayao Miyazaki Collection Box. It seems there is some pieve of work called Lupin which I have not heard of before which is missing, otherwise it contains all Studio Ghibli movies of Miyazaki. WANT!!

On the other hand, it is effin expensive with > 100 Euros for 11 movies (or is it 10 plus bonus DVD?) considering the packaging seems to be more similar to a shoe carton than anything "limited"... L-)

So, not sure what to do.

Anyway, I DID buy the Collector's Edition Extended Edition of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug today. 5 Blu-Rays I have no player for :P and a fugly Weta Workshop statue... But, well, in this case, the collector's drive...

I'm thinking The Castle of Cagliostro wasn't there because Lupin III isn't a Miyazaki original character. He was created by Katō Kazuhiko, better known by the nom de plume, Monkey Punch. Sounds like a very cool set though. Hmmm, a thought, the eleventh disc might contain a collection of his fairly rare short films, which might just make that a must have.

I found that season 1 of SAO was awesome, but that season 2 was pretty haphazard and lacked the drive of the first season. Asuna was, by far, the most interesting character of season 2 and they made us wait a good long time through some serious nonsense before letting us get to her story.

Partner and I subscribe to Crunchyroll so we watch anime in the evenings together. Recently we began watching Yona of the Dawn. It's pretty good after the first 2 episodes, so I reckon we will continue with it.

the real problem with the entire sub vs dub debate is that it distracts us from the rule of the sneeple over our civilization

I don't watch much anime anymore. Kind of lost interest after high school/early college. However, when I find an interesting series, I'll watch it to the end. My two all-time favorites are: Trigun and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. There was an anime I dsicovered awhile back that I liked, but for the life of me, can't remember what it was. Had to do with people having super natural abilities, but every time they used them, they were punished in some way, or had to fulfill a pact.
Behold, my current in development comic book series and the many links you could share for me!

I've just heard Dodger talk about it on the Co-Optional podcast. ;)

It's on my list to read/watch. ^^;

So, I rent a lot of things from my library. Books, CD's, DVD's... and a few weeks ago I happened to notice that there was an option to reserve items that haven't been released yet. I saw a box set for an anime series called She, the Ultimate Weapon. Having never heard of it and only going by the picture of a shy looking schoolgirl with a mecha weapon arm I decided "what the heck, why not".

Oh my glob, why did I do that?

I literately watched through the entire series in one day. It's a tragi-romance set at the beginning of a major world war with a focus on several school kids in their senior year. The two main characters fall in love, it goes rough almost immediately, and then the heroine of the story realizes that she's been made into a super advanced superweapon by the Japanese government and throughout the rest of the series she struggles with maintaining her humanity... and identity. We get to see both main characters have ill fated side romances (coincidentally with a married couple, despite never having anyone meet their rival), along with the wonderful joys of having all their friends die bloody deaths. Usually in a very painful fashion that is coupled with emotional regrets. But don't worry, the ending is the best part... because it literately ends with the END OF THE WORLD. In which the hero is the only living being alive, with his superweapon girlfriend having transcended to an energy form that lives within him. And he lives out the rest of his life in a blasted wasteland of what was Earth while hallucinating of how things used to be while telepathically communicating with his girl.
If you don't open the spoiler in which I explain the entire story, I'll sum it up this way - it's been a while since a story has bummed me out this badly. Average animation style, melodramatic (even for anime) delivery of lines, and one of the most downer endings I've ever imagined.
