I have most of those books here. One day in the far future, I might get around to actually read them...

Found this on Tumblr, and I can't verify it all. Some of it is known already in general, some of it makes sense in afterthought, and some raise a few eyebrows:
Some Harry Potter Facts.

Daniel Randcliffe's favorite HP book is Chamber of Secrets, Emma Watson's favorite HP book is Prisoner of Azkaban and

Rupert Grint's favorite HP book is The Goblet of Fire.

Neville asked the Sorting Hat to be put in Hufflepuff because he found Gryffindor's reputation bravery intimidating.

Most of the members of the Black family are named after stars.

Voldemort cannot love because he was conceived under the effects of a Love Potion.

The first Harry Potter novel was published in 1998, the same year that the final Battle of Hogwarts take place. "I open at the close."

J.K. Rowling has said that when she took an online Sorting Hat quiz it sorted her into Hufflepuff.

Both Sirius and Fred, Hogwarts pranksters from different generations, died laughing.

Tom Marvolo Riddle is also an anagram for "immortal odd lover."

Slytherin house was the first and last house mentioned in the series.

October 9 of 1995, Dumbledore's Army meets in the Room of Requirement for the first time to practice the Disarming Charm.

In the movie scene "Nineteen Years Later", Tom Felton's girlfriend Jade Gordon makes an appearance as Draco's wife, Astoria Greengrass.

Voldemort is bald because this way people can't use his hair in a Polyjuice Potion.

Ron's Patronus is a Jack Russel Terrier, which are know for chasing otters. Hermione's Patronus happens to be an otter.

Voldemort's Boggart would take the shape of his own corpse, since death was his greatest fear.

Voldemort was 71 years old when he died on May 2, 1998.

A Patronus is a physical representation of one's soul. Since James Potter's is a stag and Lily's is a doe, they are literally soul mates.

Molly Weasley's brothers Gideon and Fabian were killed by Death Eaters in the first war.

Even though he feared death, Voldemort could not become a ghost because his soul was so damaged.

George would never be able to evoke a Patronus Charm after Fred's death.

A Patronus often mutates to take the image of the love one's life because they so often become the happy thought that generates a Patronus.

Bellatrix Lestrange is actually in love with Voldemort.

After Kingsley Shacklebolt became the new Minister of Magic, he told all who participated in the Battle of Hogwarts they could have a job as an Auror without N.E.W.T.s.

Snape hates Neville so much because Neville could have been the other Chosen One, meaning that Lily would have to survived.

The third scent Hermione could smell emanating from the Amortentia (love potion) was that of Ron's hair.

Minerva McGonagall played on the Gryffindor Quidditch team while she attended Hogwarts.

The Elder Wand is the only known wand in existence with a hair from the tail of a Thestral at its core.

Dumbledore was gay, and he was in love with Grindelwald.
Like I said, some make sense, like McGonagall being a former Quidditch player at school, and the bit about the survivors of the Battle of Hogwarts getting automatically qualified as Aurors. The bit about Snape and Neville makes a lot of sense in retrospect. And the bit about Ron and Hermione's patronmous's is down right funny. ;)

Interesting...

I finished a book by author Dan Brown called Inferno. Considering I loved his previous book The Lost Symbol and loved the Film adaptations of Angels and Demons and The DaVinci Code, I must say this book was just downright amazing.

Through pain a torture, the colossus lit the way for the weary travelers.

I'm reading The Mortal Instruments series written by Cassendra Clare.
While the movie based the first book(City of Bones) sucks big time the book itself is very good, as are the other ones that follow, it combines a little romance with great action and a very cool fantasy setting in witch angels and demons as well as vampires, fairies and werewolves(AKA downworlders) are all real and live together among humans while been kept in checked by the AKA Shadowhunters, humans infused with the blood of angels, to fight agains the evergrowing demon threat as well as against a rogue showhunter who wants to kill all downworlders.

While the movie tried to(and failed) become the next Twilight, the books are more serious and interesting with some interesting twists.

Much the same thing could be said for much of High Fantasy written after Howard and Tolkien. :p

as long as the story's solid and not boring i don't care whats its based on.
Also, i highly doubt The mortal instruments is HP fan fiction of any kind, way to serious and bloody.

And yes, most fantasy books are inspired by Tolkien's epic books, not a bad thing at all :)

Well, maybe you should google Cassandra Clare... It's based on a HP fanfic called the Draco Trilogy which actually was quite acclaimed...

From what i've heard the books are pretty similar to Twilight just set within a HP-ish setting. :p
Artificial does not mean obtuse! ~Uno from Paperinik's New Adventures.
It is important to draw wisdom from different places. If you take it from only one place it become rigid and stale. ~Iroh
You can't make an omelette without ruthlessly crushing dozens of eggs beneath your steel boot and then publicly disemboweling the chickens that laid them as a warning to others. ~Tarquin
The skin stretched and tanned, the striped suit sown into the flesh itself, the killer donned a new body, giggling to no one, "Wears Waldo."
This is here for future reference.

The kids at my school are all pretty hardcore about the Mortal Instruments series... less so about the Infernal Devices.

I'm fond of them to an extent, but not in nearly the same swooning level as my students. For me they were a nicely distracting bit of mind-candy while I was working on the first half of my Masters.

Currently, I'm reading Oryx & Crake by Margaret Atwood, American Dervish by Ayad Akhtar, Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie and The Third Reich by Robert Bolaño

Image Image Image Image

Oryx & Crake is a pretty awesome book, though I can see why we keep it out of the kids hands unless they specifically ask for it and get a proper conversation about it with an English teacher. Catholic schools aren't too keen on talking about child pornography and exploitation. I'm only a couple of chapters through the other three so I can't really say if I like them or not or how much.

It's reminding me of Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi, which was also an awesome dystopian book.
