Well, start putting money in the bank, cause it's an expensive place... Though Norway is worse.

Wonderful as usual, Gis and Dave.
Also, I wanted to say that the forums have been VEEEERY slow for me lately, therefore I haven't been posting much.
Though I doubt anyone's noticed, since I don't talk much anyway.
But still.

~carols loudly and off key~ "The Ittsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polkadot Bikini, she wore, for the first time today" I love that song. A grunge band I used to know did a rendition of it, and 'Kiss the girl" from Disney's Little Mermaid. They where awesome.

DiDi, I don't view much as ignorant, so much as utterly lacking in any modesty what so ever. No, not modesty, shame in her body. There's a difference. She knows other people view her as beautiful, she doesn't care. She's happy beeing herself. Let them think what they think and all that.

I think you've got DiDi's character right there. Some people here view her as brainless, others see her as a calculating seductress, but I think they are both wrong. She's a happy, sweet girl with a kind of open sensousness that springs naturally from her personality. She doesn't act as she does to seduce people, she just really likes wearing as few clothes as possible.

Getting back to Dan Di Carlo...yes, I have noticed that style here. Oddly enough, Jaime Hernandez (who does my favorite strip, Love and Rockets) is a big Dan DiCarlo fan too, and it shows in his work. If Giz' DiDi is a kind of Betty with a bigger rack, then Jaime's Terry is a sort of punk lesbian Veronica.

I tell you one thing, though; if this was L & R, Terry or Hopey would have hauled DiDi into the bushes by now.

A week in Gothenburg is a must for anyone, male or female, if you like your women beautiful or your men muscular. Every guy there was built like a brick shithouse, and any female 16-40 was absolutely stunning. Infact "stunning" doesn't even come close, they were that attractive. And I don't even do blondes! Their men made me jealous, and their women made me drool. Best country in the world. And the best part? Nudity isn't sexual to them. They'll undress and swim naked in one of many crystal clear lakes that are dotted about, and not care who is looking, because it's not a sexual thing to them. It's a beautiful thing. One of the best sights in my life was having 20 18-year old Swedish girls commandeer the mens shower room just as I was finishing getting dressed. I couldn't help but stare, and they just didn't care.

You must go there. There is no alternative.

Don't even get me started on the food, quality of living, eco-friendly attitudes, or their summers. Beats England any day.
Denmark's the same way. Some serious eyecandy walking around there.

My older brother is blond, blue-eyed and 6'3". Stands out in any crowd, until we went to Denmark for my brother's wedding! We were waiting for him at the airport, and nearly missed him!

well, I think she does, to a degree. She's smart enough to play that card to get something she wants, she's just not malicious in it, and it's not something that can be, in my oppinion, considered as part of who she is. Even the best of us are manipulative to some extent, and Didi is no different.

On an only semi-related note, and I KNOW this has to have shown up before, perhaps before I joined the forums where I missed it. But my sleep addled brain just went and put "Di Di" together with "D D" or double D. Rather descriptive for the character. Oh well, like the saying goes "He who laughs last, thinks slowest" I'm just slightly embaressed that I only now caught the joke

This is the first time I've associated Didi with the motif of harmful sensation, but I suppose that's right. Although I think she might be doing it to get a rise in others, I think she's doing it because it's fun, frolicky, and gets a rise in others, and I don't think she sees anything wrong with that. Although I'm ready to be proven wrong, I think Gary and Didi are the nicest characters in the story (though Gary looses points for being so goddamned pent up... hopefully Didi will be able to attend to that... I think Gary will have to be blindfolded, though, the motif of harmful sensation being what it is... :D ).

In all fairness, living in Norway isn't nearly as expensive as being there for short periods of time. While the taxation is high, the social infrastructure they support balance it rather well (free medical care, free education, etc.).
Further affiant sayeth not.

You do realize that the terms "free" health care, "free" education, etc., are misnomers, right? If you're paying out the nose in taxes to get these "free" services, all you're doing is paying for them indirectly. And possibly paying more, for third party participation, processing, and "convenience". But I digress. And request posting of the aforementioned photos of amazing people in amazing lands.

I propose that there's eye candy everywhere. Probably even in North Korea.

But I assume that the "nordic type" (tall, pale, blond hair, blue eyes) may just strike the deepest chord in the largest part of the western demographic. On avergae, more people will deem these girls to be eye candy.

Me, I go for tall, not too pale, red hair and green eyes!

I'll do what I can Phoenix, but it was a good.......nearly 20 years ago. As of now, all I have is my word that she was hot, and her mother was hotter. When I'm able to find pictures....I'll scan them and put them up.

Well, my background's Germanic so I come by it honestly.

But yes, there's eye candy everywhere. And yes, every ethnic type has its own version of eye candy. I tend to be enthusiastic, not discriminating! ;)

I more than many (not-quite-Fabian socialist, myself). And I don't see how that contradicts the point I make - expensive as hell to visit, cheap to live in. (Important point - mostly, it's the tourists who are paying for all the social infrastructure.)

I actually live in Sweden  and although I got to admit there are some hotties here I say the hottest guys are found in Cabo Verde.
Also I often find that the tall, blond, blue-eyed babes here are interesting until you start a conversation with them. Most of them are too "viking" for me.

But yeah Gothenburg sure is awesome. :D

As for Didi maybe she just doesn't "get it" when people are attracted to her, like some people doesn't get irony.
