it would make sense for an artist working from home to draw characters that resemble the nearest handy female model he has access to

along the same logic, her mother could be named yuki and he could have named his characters after her then later on, they decided to name their daughter after her as well. maby it's an old family name.

Just click the link, I'm not reposting my link fest over again. If after that you two still insist that the character is drawn after Yuki, or the wild curve ball from out of nowhere, Yuki's mother... I'll have to call into question the both of your's claim of being fans of the comic.

Tentacle porn being scary?
Such a weird idea. In the past, I have thought it was offensive and perhaps a little evil; what with all the rape and and glorification of sexual violence, but never actually scary. Perhaps because they never rape men in those comics. I guess I knew intuitively that I was always supposed to identify with the tentacles and not the victim... witch is kind of scary in itself...
Yes, for me that material has at times been kind of meta-scary (fear because of the resultant arousal at something I find morally repugnant) but not actually scary.
Nowadays, I am more open to the idea of that stuff as porn, so it doesn't really scare me in that way either anymore. The idea that some real-life women get off on it too helps a lot.

I can't remember when, but there was a period in Japanese in which you couldn't distribute any media that showed the genitals. Various pornographers tried to find ways around this and one that really stuck was using phallic substitutes, like tentacles. (Probably inspired by some rauncy folktales like The Fisherman's Wife, but not necessarily.) As to why tentacles stuck around after the laws were lifted -- that's a trickier question. It's one part modernist obscenity for the thrill of obscenity, one part of it just being an accepted porn standby that people want so they "know" they're watching porn, one part sneaking crap under the radar to soft-core up otherwise non-porny media, and several parts very frightening gender tension.

In the Japanese defense, it's still a fringe audience. Only, it's a fringe audience that gets wide attention because they're just so damn weird. So it's easy to interpret them as being more prevalent than they are.

It was my understanding that the genital prohibition started post-WWII with the U.S. occupation, and that the tentacles were an older obsession, but I could be wrong about that. Is the prohibition still in place, or have they repealed it? I'm not up on Japanese porn, for some reason... ;)

He might've named Yuki after a character he was fond of. Tentacle porn or not, characters are still easy to become attached to. The mother might not have had a clue until it was too late.

Anyrate, many have been going by the assumption that Yuki was being portrayed in her father's mangas, and one person took a moment to state that it was never said she was drawn as the victim but couldn't be bothered to source link. So here we go...

So, the upshot of all that (and your valuable links) was that Yuki's father didn't use her in his tentacle porn, but DID use the same name for his principal female victim in said porn.

Which, I'll admit, is pretty creepy.

Maybe her mom had warned him about that before, and when she found him continuing to use the name, decided to leave for Montreal?
