Oddly it never occurred to use the term platonic with regards to relatives at all.
because.. they're relatives so attraction doesn't exist. (typically anyway) (Insert Dangerously Chloe joke if you frequent that most recent comic)

platonic always felt like it was a term to be used with regards to folks who ~could~ be fancyed or physically involved. I never thought to apply it to the gender I'm not appealed to for instance. It always sort of felt like a label for strong affection. Though I grew up in the 90's early 2000's. It got several subculture attachements during that era. And some befuddling because of shows like Friends and Fraiser both using "what? no we're platonic friends!" or yelling 'ITS PLATONIC!' and of couse later on banging and people giving them that look.

but for me, it is ultimately up to what they chose to act upon or not.
