Why?

She wants to remember what it feels like to be an unattached, sexually adventurous, woman. This is a way to do it.

Maybe she'll realize something during this and decide she could be with Gary without sacrificing her sexual freedom. Or that her idea of sexual freedom might be different from what she assumed. Or that she, indeed, is not ready for a relationship, period. Any, all, or none of these are perfectly OK. One is not morally superior to the other, imho.

Or maybe I'm missing something.

I agree with you completely about this in general. My problem is Peggy's need to get completely shit-faced drunk to participate. She states she has a roommate that she is trying to forget about. If she needs to get this drunk to drive Gary from her mind, that should tell her something. It would be interesting if she experiences the same thing Matt did when he was seeing Gary's head on the bodies of whoever he was having sex with.

However, a few drinks isn't exactly "I didn't know what I was doing!" just because some people want to say it is, to get out of stupid/illegal things they've done.

What's a bit funny is there were complaints about how fast the alcohol would effect people and Peggy didn't look like she drank so long ago.

Nah. They are work colleagues. They apparently haven't been over to his (mom's) place, or even discussed significant sections of their personal life. They are polite enough coworkers. I wouldn't be surprised if they talk about finding a particular woman attractive. Or maybe not due to HR issues, but I figure they are at least buddy-buddy enough to be cool with the other when talking about sex not with the other directly. Each one wants a piece of Peggy.

I expect regrets in the morning.

It would be the usual MA3 trainwreck except that the weak length of track is a character who's come to be viewed as actually engaging her brain to deal with tricky situations. What's worse is, as has been mentioned, we know Peggy's purposely not doing that to finagle this encounter. If she had, she'd at least have talked to Gary first, explaining where she thinks he is in the relationship and how she's not (or is and doesn't want to be, it seems to me) in the same emotional place. That's something else Peggy's purposely not doing, I suspect, and it makes this all the worse.

However, that's not the end of it. I know that I've reacted this way in the past to being called 'the mature one,' and I'm guessing others in the audience have, too, although hopefully none of us have gone this far (that is, using others with no thought for the effect our foray into Irresponsibility Land will have on them). But it's still doubly cringeworthy because we can relate and want to tell Peggy 'Nooooooo!'

(If you want to rationalise it, assume that both of them have always focused on the job, and are a bit reserved when it comes to socialising. When your shared day job involves pulling people out of car wrecks as they bleed to death, and if you’re kind of reserved by nature, chatting about your own lifestyles might seem frivolous. And the ease with which Peggy manipulated the pair of them into this suggests that neither of them have put many points into social skills. But, most of all, this is Ma3.)

I think it's safe to assume any female character in anything written by Dave or Giz is bisexual until explicitly told otherwise. (Or even after, dans quelques cas.)

That has always been true. We can have delightful scenes like Peggy getting double teamed by Gary and Matt complete with plenty of side boob and orgasmic faces, or Didi riding Gary to exhaustion, and they’re still okay.

It’s only when we can see a female nipple that things have gone too far.

Agreed, though in panel 4 the delightful cheeks of Peggy and Vince going full mast weren't enough to distract me from noticing Giz has indeed snuck in the merest suspicion of a nipple on Peggy that's almost fully hidden by the angle she's been drawn at.

Good points, but I can't think of any strictly lesbian characters in Menage a 3 so it would be nice to actually have one.
