How about "fantasy is different from reality"? Or the simple fact that people are usually attracted to more than just their SO. Let's face it, most people are attracted to more than one thing (obvious example - bisexual people aren't going to get the full spectrum of their attraction out of a single person unless that person is intersex). Saying that one person fills your needs is (to continue the cake and ice cream metaphor) like saying you only like one flavor of cake, and no kind of ice cream.
