A different cute expression for Ruby in each panel; poor, blushing wallflower. The fact she is overcoming her shyness is impressive in itself, even if the results aren't reached.
I wonder if Andy is the typical Mà3-style moron or if he is genuinely asexual; his unflinching expression seems to indicate sincerity, so it appears unlikely he is being deliberately obtuse. A truly asexual individual could drift away from the topic of sex, even if it was in a preceding comment, because it plays no factor in their thought processes.

OK, it is official, the prize "neutron star" for the densest character goes to Andy...

That has to be one of the biggest /facepalm moments in the strip's history. Signs are pointing to him being more 'dead' than obtuse or asexual. I mean, boy scout Captain America would have gotten the hint that Ruby was wanting to have sex. Does she need to break out the "F" word next in ordering him to do what she wants from him, because that sounds like all she has left?

Also, pretty sure most women would have dumped Andy by now; Ruby's desperation and shyness can't reasonably expect too much more out of Andy. He heard her talk about making a sexual arrangement with him, so he knows she wants him inside her asap. He isn't even blushing at the prospect, or even at something as simple as complementing Ruby on being 'nice'. His mind went to swimming, and not as in taking a plunge into Lake Ruby.

Can't wait to see how this is going to unfold. Ruby in tears? Or Ruby impersonating Miss Piggy and karate chopping Andy? Ruby ravishing Andy on the yaoi table? Argh. Get on with it.

Nah, I think that he's just really, really genuinely obtuse. Like, dumber than most rocks. I mean, he may or may not be asexual as well -- probably not, but the option is there -- but even someone who's decided that they're not interested in sex should have got the message there and started politely explaining why they're not interested. Someone can be asexual and still know where babies come from, and have seen enough movies to know what "hot" and "take my clothes off" mean. This is just sheer stupidity. Okay, it may be exaggerated in service of the punchline, but ultimately, dumb is dumb.

To be honest, my advice to Ruby here would be to scream "I give up", lock Andy in the room, and go off and shag Matt or Gary or someone. But she's a better person than I am, and this is a lightweight sex comedy, so I imagine we'll probably get some kind of minimal explanation from Andy of why he's so clueless, some largely-elided explanation from Ruby of what she means, and then cut to Andy looking grateful. But I may be wrong.

And gosh, this is a beautiful set of four pictures of a geeky ingenue who's advanced to adulthood, learned to work around her problems, and then realised that she's stuck with a moron, isn't it? I wonder why Giz has become so especially good at this character.

Even by comedy idiot standards, this is pathetic.

Okay [deep breath] I must remind myself; these comics do not believe that it’s possible to over-sell a joke, especially in service to a punchline. This is just a gag about Andy being a bit oblivious. The writer doesn’t actually mean us to think that he’s less sentient than a sea slug.

Of course, it’s also possible that this is a Thanksgiving joke; Andy is a total turkey.

Actually, I find it kind of heartwarming how Ruby has bulldozed through her own issues and basically now feels okay with her own desires and the odd survivable embarrassment. Andy is pathetic, sure, but he gets no more sympathy from me than early-model Gary. Much less, actually, given that he’s probably about to be energetically helped by Ruby.

Does Andy even know what sex is? At this point I think he's completely innocent.

When Gina (the pointy-haired girl) told him Ruby was a porn star and that a cock ring would be a great gift, he stammered because he didn't know what a porn star was but didn't want to admit it.

Reading ahead, it seems all his knowledge of porn is that it involves being naked in front of cameras. He doesn't know the concept of coitus, that's the only explanation.

The reason it's not funny is because humor needs a kernel of truth, such as a surprise that should have been expected. That is simply not the case here. Andy's total oblivion on sex is not even an exaggeration of something we see in real life. The only way to save this is for Andy's skin to fall off, revealing that he is a robot.

Well, going by that very archive you linked he clearly does know what sex is.

He's relieved when he finds out Ruby wasn't in porn as his coworker mistakenly made him believe, being worried that he won't be good enough or last long enough to satisfy her.

So I'd just go with him being ridiculously dense.

You know, if Andy has to be written as this dim-seeming, I have to hope that he actually is just amazingly ignorant. (Weird parents, presumably.) That way, when Ruby has finished repairing his ignorance (with illustrations), he could make it worth her effort. Whereas if he’s just this dumb, he’s beyond hope.

But more likely he’s just been hit by the idiot ball for the sake of a (weak) punchline, and he’ll miraculously turn less stupid on Tuesday.

Incidentally, if the rest of the club are listening outside the door, I’d expect to hear screaming about now...
