What is the opposite of schadenfreude? Because I'm happy for Sandra finally getting her drama fix, but I'm feeling for Angel and Zii on this one.

This keeps sounding more and more like a spin-off starring Sonya and Bianca.

Angel and Zii could merge, dump Terry and have 4 members: Zii and Angel on vocals and guitars, Izz on bass and Yuki on drums.
That's what i do... i drink and i know things...

Early update today! Not complaining, though.

Anyway, it is sort of good that Angel is facing some karmic retribution, too, as even if they were right to hate Zii, their attitude was excessively aggressive and they had ego problems as big as Zii's. Angel's final expression is priceless, which is a fitting look of utter disbelief to break their previously self-satisfied look of arrogance - pride goes before the fall, after all.
Bit of a belated point, but having Sonya hook up with some random spy girl (hell, at least she acknowledged "girlfriend" rather than doing the denial dance again), it feels as though gaining arousal from lethal encounters is a mental disorder to be attended to, rather than a *celebration* that Sonya found "happiness."

Suppose what happens next is that Yuki will leave Angel's band as well, although likely for different circumstances; granted, she could leave as without Sonya, she hasn't got a "friend" to make playing in the band enjoyable. While Yuki could return to Zii's band, that seems implausible, as it would undermine the humbling Zii experienced, as well as backtracking Yuki's development. Perhaps she will leave, like Sonya, for relationship reasons, although it would be repugnant and unpleasant if it was with Matt (if Angel is facing karma, then karma exists, therefore Matt should end up miserable and alone).
Though, there is another route in which Angel will be desperate enough to ask for a merger between their band and Zii's, thus bringing Yuki along, too; Angel does seem too prideful to beg or even merely ask Zii for help, but if Yuki might leave as well, Angel will need to swallow their pride for the sake of career.

It'd be nice if Yuki and Sonya could make peace with Zii, although she hasn't really earned it yet; well, to be more specific, she hasn't earned their friendship back, and may not ever, but could make peace, in spite of the latter being a way off as well.

She said 'girlfriend'. Does this mean she is no longer in denial?

That would require them to mend fences though.

Oh c'mon ... I'm happy to see Sonya again, but if they keep throwing random stuff in this comic will never end. Sonya's story was fine, this is so unnecessary. We don't need all the characters to end up with someone.

"I like your music."
"I think you're lying."
"Hey -- I'm a fan. You're not supposed to argue with me."

So will Sonya and Bianca drop by Paris any time soon?
Pointless arguing is one of the three pillars upon which the Internet is built. The other two are of course cat pictures and porn.

Okay, so I was wrong about Sonya actually joining Bianca on her adventures. Well, I guess it shows she's genuinely getting away from the toxic temptations of a town with Zii in it, and setting up a Zii-Angel plotline.

Somebody should tell Angel about good and bad historical figures to claim as inspirations, though. Julius Caesar wasn't a terribly nice man, and ended up getting stabbed in the back by his friends when they thought his ambition was getting out of hand.

(Hmm - have we actually got a subtle literary-historical allusion in this strip, with Sonya as Brutus?)

I suspect that that's something like where this is heading. However, that'd require getting Izzy up to reliable professional standards on bass, which could be a long job. So I reckon there's still a bassist shortage - and, given that Angel still had a nameless lead guitarist when last seen, a guitarist surfeit.

(Though, okay, that other guy has never been named, and Angel doesn't seem to even think of him here. Perhaps he's quit already because of Angel's drooling over Yuki and Sonya.)

However, Zii has mentioned playing bass herself once or twice. I think that someone will have to mention Paul McCartney loudly in her vicinity once or twice.

The denial was always a very thin joke. And she can probably claim to have a girlfriend while denying being a lesbian, if the writers insist - Maura did more or less that very recently.

Hardly seems impossible, if the pair of them can swallow their pride -- especially Angel, given that Zii has never been as much of a pratt about it and has acknowledged her failings. They got on okay before, and Angel seems to have accepted the loss of Jerzy to Dillon, so abjuring Zii as a boyfriend-stealer would seem a bit pointless now. Worse feuds have been resolved.

It seems to be the writers' model for final closure, though. You're right that Sonya's character arc had already finished; I'd set the end point at the moment when she destroyed Zii's band and Yuki's illusions with four words -- that was the point when the student proved that she was now the master, and that she'd seen the folly of her Zii fixation. But she's now being given a classical comedy happy ending. Similarly, Gary's character arc ended when he rejected Tracy and James, told a simple truth rather than a silly lie, and walked home with his head held high to a sane woman who wanted shared good sex with him -- but his story is still dragging on, because he supposedly needs some kind of confirmed final pair. And Yuki and Matt are getting their pairing as a (rather thin) resolution for their character issues.

I'll also guess at this point that Izzy and Terry will pair up and start trying to actually improve by hard work and paying their dues.

It recalls a frequent motif in Yu-Gi-Oh: Whoever talks the most smack inevitably loses.

I'm probably the only person here who actively dislikes Sonya for her erratic insane behaviour. Everything she does recklessly disregards everyone else. She's the kind of person who constantly changes her mind about everything and lets down other people around her. She took advantage of Zii's bad situation and then exacted "revenge" (really, it was actually vicious and petty attack not actually revenge considering that it was her who took advantage of Zii) when Zii left her the first chance she got. If anyone deserves karma dunk, it's her.

And Sonya’s accomplishment there was kind of magnificent, even if it was a bit evil.

But Sonya changing her mind? No more than most people, surely. She’s actually quite consistent. She’s addicted to drama, and sometimes drunk on it. (And now she’s heading off into a whole different genre in search of more of it.)
