Ah, the terrible moment when one discovers that if one completely ignores a problem, it doesn't always go away.

Most of us go through it around the age of three, but better late than never, I guess -- if this takes now. And I wonder where down the line Izzy realised that there was an opening for a bass player that she might exploit? Because this strip says that she's being rather clueless about much of this current clusterfudge.

The art's fine as ever, but I think that Zii's thoughtful/forlorn expression is becoming a bit standardised -- presumably because the universe keeps dragging her through bad situations in the desperate hope that she'll eventually get a clue.

Well, maybe this time it'll stick. You can't beat losing the things you really value in life for teaching important life lessons. They're not necessarily good ones, but they are usually important to someone's overall psyche.

Regardless, I find Izz's comical point-missing rather amusing. She's - I don't think growing on me is the right turn of phrase, but as crazy people who are just here to say stupid and irreverent things for a punchline go, she's not so bad.

TBH, I've always found Giz's facial expressions to be fairly standardized most of the time, with body language and how the scenes are framed providing the diversity required to sell the various characters & emotions.

The adult thing would be to go next door and apologize. Granted, Angel's over there, so not sure if that would end in violence or not.

Speaking of violence, Zii would be somewhat justified in slapping Izz here. Have you EVER seen her smoke, woman? Good lord.

Scratching my head here, wondering, how does this rehearsal studio work? Do they supply practice drums & amps & guitars & such, in the vein that a furnished apartment has a sofa in it? I would have imagined not, so it would have made more sense that Yuki would have carried her drums out and be done with the Troublemaker's studio. Then Terry would have brought his drum set in, sobbing while doing it? If my assumption was right, then Izzy's punchline is just contrived and silly. Even more so about the plot hole about no one in the Troublemakers (save ZII?) knowing Sonya quit and a bass player position being vacant. Maybe Montreal really is that upbeat and (up)keeps professional grade practice equipment available in the nicer studios? If so, I would assume it would cost a significant amount more than just renting out empty space... musicians being musicians and all that.

That aside, Zii could go over to Angel's studio and beg Yuki's forgiveness, if Zii even knew that Yuki was over there. Considering how dense Izzy "I'm approaching the density of a neutron star" is, I don't think she was aware that Yuki was over there ('quitting smoking', remember?). But then we run into Zii's severe dislike of begging for things/attention, and even more so, would have to do it in front of Sonya & Angel too. It wouldn't happen.

If Zii does manage to track down Yuki (and the others) I would still like to read that strip. I would really savor Yuki & Sonya telling Zii off, face-to-face. Yuki & Sonya were human beings and they deserved to be treated with dignity & respect, not taken advantage of, and Zii need that point driven home. I could care less that Angel is involved now, other than they too need a steaming cup of humility dumped into their lap as well. Maybe it is my own sense sense of team spirit, but a band is a 'band' - a group. The egos of these two frontmen is upsetting in how callous they disregard their fellow bandmates.

LOL, dude, have you ever seen someone carry a whole drum kit on his shoulder the way you would carry a guitar?

Image

OF COURSE the rehearsal studio comes with drums & amps... the guitars & the other instruments are light stuff and the players can bring'em, but the heavy stuff is provided by the house......
I mean, really, have you ever seen Yuki carry with her anything but a pair of drum sticks? ;))

Yeah, Izzy's...misunderstanding about just what Yuki quit implies that the drum set at least, was supplied as part of the rehearsal space. As for Zii, I don't see her begging either of her former bandmates to return. She may just see it as two potential complications out of her life, plus y'know, pride. I can see her trying to make a go of it with the present band instead.

Sonya has shown herself to be furious enough to throw a cat at Zii, and Yuki just made sure that Izz would pass on a very angry message. An apology is certainly due from Zii here, and she may eventually be able to patch things up a bit, but this is not one of those situations where the offending party can just breeze in saying “My bad, sorree”. Zii needs to work out the scope of the offence, and it might be best if everyone lets everyone else draw breath before meeting face to face.

So going round straight away might not be the best idea — even if the other three are still in the next room. But I somehow have the feeling that they may have left. No, it’s not entirely logical, but I think that the point of this strip is that Zii is Just Too Late, and will have to rely on Izzy’s account for now. Do note that Izz has had time to go out and buy a bass, after all.

As to Zii and Angel maltreating their bands... Well, yeah. Rock front-persons. TV Tropes has whole pages dedicated to the sub-human status of drummers and the contempt shown to bassists.

All of which said, I can’t help thinking that today’s strip reads a bit like filler. We learned last time that Zii had her brains sucked out while between DiDi’s legs and hasn’t a clue what an arse she’s been, so all we’re really getting from this one is a trivial bit of plot explanation and that feeble gag about Izz’s stupidity.

(Though we do have to remember that Izz is quite young. Perhaps a bit of cluelessness about adult actions and turns of phrase is plausible there — and she may find it utterly unthinkable that anyone would voluntarily quit Zii’s band.)

Yes, Izz, smoking is very very bad. Good on you! :)

In these types of situations my experience is that the bad boy (girl) always wins. My prediction is still that Sonia and Yuki will end up at Zii's feet. Maybe not right away.

That was a pretty weak joke in the last panel. And are we supposed to feel sorry for Zii now?

No, not particularly; we're supposed to realise that Zii is feeling sorry for herself.

Aw. Poor Terry. :( He gets no love or dignity anywhere.

Good for Yuki. She finally won free from the gravity field of the ziingularity.
