Angel, at least, has not traumatized a family member through negligence or tried to coerce someone into setting them up on a date by threatening dismissal.

Yeah. Angel... punches sideways. Really does no harm to people who can’t hit back. It’s all part of the give and take of the comedy with Angel. Those other three abuse their power in various ways. They’re inherently creepier and nastier.

Well now I'm wondering how much worse Angel would be if he had the power they have.

I'm going to still stick by my first statement: I would have preferred Yuki to try to talk some sense into Zii. However I will throw in that you could interpret 'talk some sense' as not just verbal dialogue but to include some screaming and kicking and punching and (well deserved) anger in order to make her point that Zii is being a dumbass. If one considers pre-Matt/Gary coitus Yuki, I would agree that Yuki was generally incapable of doing such well. However soul searching for so long to cure herself of her phobia has chilled her out a lot; I would even say that Sonya & her hate-fucking each other helped. Is she still prone to violence, sure. I recall when she and Gary were talking about him enjoying getting pegged; she was pretty relaxed compared to just throttling him (or Peggy) and shouting obscenities in Japanese.

I don't fault the creative team taking her in this path, though. It is logical enough, especially when one knows that the end of the comic is near-ish. Hard decisions and quicker character development are required. The days of lampoon silliness, while not over, need to be measured against how the strip's characters need to end up. It is logical enough for Yuki to follow Sonya, as they are both wounded 'sisters' stung by Zii's indifference.

I don't expect the Electric Toyz to be a fun band to play in. Angel seems like they are a prima donna & into too much micromanagement. Granted: they headline the band. Maybe the rest of their band is subpar, compared to Yuki & Sonya (note: I know they were at one point... they lost to the Troublemakers in the battle of the bands. Sometimes new band members come and go, or improve.) But Angel is just being a total @-hole, dropping bandmates like that and streaming it to YouTube. Now, if any of the Electric Toyz joined under the premise that Angel was boss - period full-stop end-of-statement - then I suppose that would ethically mitigate Angel's @-holishness a bit. I suppose we can infer that Angel is the head honcho considering their nature. I don't recall another of the Toyz at the recent tryouts when Sonya joined... but then the other members might have lives outside of music.

Then that wouldn’t be Angel. It’d be a character with a similar background and a different biography. At a guess, I suspect they’d turn into the classic vain, entitled rock star type; given to petty abuses of power, but without Nathan’s habit of systematically abusing power, Yvan’s petulant sense of entitlement, or Takeru’s horrible parenting style.

I have never, ever liked Angel. Not once, ever.

It should therefore be telling that I am still cheering Yuki's decision to defect. Because seriously, at this point?

F*ck Zii.

I'm more or less neutral towards most of the characters in this comic and that includes Zii and Matt. But I do dislike some of the characters because they are essentially a stereotype wrapped up in a cliche. But then again those kind of characters are easier to write in a comedy setting. Just don't expect me to root for them anytime soon. And the only characters that are on my "like" list are Gary, Peggy, and Kiley. I only added Gary to my like list recently because he's now growing a spine and standing up for himself.

I'm personally eagerly waiting for Zii's heel-face realization. I wonder how that will play out.
While Zii does have her good moments, her defining characteristics seem to be hedonism and thoughtlessness, usually in combo. Seriously, she's managed to ruin every good thing that happened to her because of her reckless sexual abandon. It broke up her band with Angel, and now this band. And it cost her her relationship with Eric. I mean, I am all for sexual independance and what not, but she NEVER stops to consider the consequences of her actions

Respectively Takeru (Yuki's father) and Yvan (Gary's snd Tracy's boss).

Well, Yvan had faded in my memory, too.
But the way Takeru messed up Yuki has stuck in my memory. :-/

Angel has a very high opinion of themselves. Perhaps the band kicked Angel out and they’re just putting up a front.

I'm not entirely sure Takeru was malicious at all. I grant you: having your female 'protagonist' getting violated by hentai tentacles and coincidentally naming her the same name as your daughter is odd. Maybe "Yuki" was as common as "Mary" or "Jane", or was a shortened nickname for the character in the manga? And not having the art well out of children' reach is also his mistake. But then kids get into the darnedest places, despite adult's intentions. Both parents should have been supervising her, if able.

Though, didn't Yuki & her father reconcile?

Nathan is a slimeball with significant power and charisma over naive actors, and Yvan is a desperate douchebag who hasn't (yet?) reached Nathan's level of sleaze.

@brasca: As to Angel, yeah, they are awfully full of themselves. However if Angel has been getting subpar band members due to subpar players being the only ones who will put up with Angel's antics/insults/hysterics, that could also make sense. If someone was a better player, they'd more than likely have the confidence to quit after taking Angel's abuse and move to better bands & gigs. That's why I am thinking that there will be some clashes of ego between Angel & Yuki & Sonya; all three are confident and sure of themselves (most of the time) and enjoy looking good.

All true. But he left his tentacle porn drawings out ... and put his daughter's hello kitty doll on top of them as a paperweight. There's a limit to the acceptable level of stupidity. And such a thing as a lockable cabinet.
