This is fun to come back around to these two and their possibilities. I've been hoping to see Zii and Gary at least have a catch-up conversation for awhile now. Now I'm waiting to see how this train derails.

Convergent evolution. It's a bitch. And it seems odd to me to think of two people "catching up" on what each other are doing when they live in the same house, but I guess it makes sense with some folks.

Anyhow, I guess the nearest thing these comics have to a (godelpus) message is often "It's good to try new things and broaden your horizons, even if it's sometimes a bit confusing at first", and yes, we're seeing that with these two here. (Heck, would the Gary of strip #1 even have used the word "piqued"?) Now, if the flavour they were both drinking was Papua New Guinea medium roast filtered, untainted by polluting syrups, I'd be really impressed... But anyway, what with DiDi finding something to do with her amazonian strength and these two actively lampshading their own character development, I wonder if we're seeing some ducks being gently, gradually nudged into a row for the comic's endgame.

Conversely, I'm now almost thinking that we'll never actually see Gary and Zii get together; we'll just see Zii forever picking up hints from her own subconscious that she might almost fancy Gary, leading to months of mental torture for her.

And, of course, the mention of the yaoi club reminds me of Sticky Dilly Buns. And now I am sad.

Well, the comic has proved fan guesses right often enough that I don't think that a correct guess makes them automatically change their plans. And this one feels obvious because we've seen Zii's capacity for irrational jealousy that she doesn't understand herself in the past.

It'd be amusing here because, on the one hand, Ruby was a kid sister type to Amber and Zii not so long ago, and we know that she still hasn't exactly progressed to vamp/heartbreaker status yet, even if Zii does think that she's developed enough to be worth an experimental pass. And while she and Gary have a few things in common on the surface, they really aren't each other's types. (My gut feeling is that Ruby would be relatively immune to Gary's weird unintentional charisma.) But Zii now has some inkling of Gary's ability to accumulate an unwanted harem, and Ruby giving him a polite hello could be mistaken for adding her to the list.

It's probably not actually going to happen. But if it did, my fondness for Ruby would make me hope that Zii would say something to her. The idea that she could be mistaken for a vamp/heartbreaker, enough to make Zii of all people jealous, would be good for the kid's ego.
