Somehow, I'm slightly weirded out by Maura and Tess's eyes. Especially Tess, in the first two panels, looks like she is staring wide-eyed past Kiley while talking to her.

Yeah, I was wondering what the heck those two were looking at in the first two panels. Bit of art weirdness there.Don Alexander wrote:Somehow, I'm slightly weirded out by Maura and Tess's eyes. And while Tess and Maura are often amusing characters, I do wish that their characterisation would just settle down a bit. Sometimes they're smart, competent cookies, and even immune to the DiDi effect, sometimes they're dim-witted goofballs - and now they're running borderline-schizoid mood swings. They look more like bolt-on plot/joke engines than people.

To be fair, their more competent moments usually involve wrestling.

Pointless arguing is one of the three pillars upon which the Internet is built. The other two are of course cat pictures and porn.

I think it's just played for laughs. There are a lot of exaggerated actions like popped head veins and streams of tears running down faces that no one would realistically experience.Spidrift wrote:Yeah, I was wondering what the heck those two were looking at in the first two panels. Makes me think they may help Didi hook up with Lynn just so she can be in a relationship where her partner really wants to be with her and not just career advancement.

I mean, they look like two Ma3 characters... Oh, wait... :-DSpidrift wrote:And while Tess and Maura are often amusing characters, I do wish that their characterisation would just settle down a bit. Yeah, I certainly can't argue with the theory that the primary determinant of any fact in the Ma3 universe is "Is it funny?" It's just ... that used to be combined with a bit of consistent characterisation (because consistent characters can be used to build good jokes). Now, it seems that it's all about the instant-gratification quick laugh, with the new characters just being hooks to hang the jokes on.brasca wrote:I think it's just played for laughs. I tried to create a variant of the layout, to see if it improves things. I placed Kiley in a separate panel, to make it clearer they are looking at each other. Edited version below, what do you think?Don Alexander wrote:Somehow, I'm slightly weirded out by Maura and Tess's eyes. Looking at this and thinking back a couple strips, I don't see Tess lacking in the chest area

Neatly done, but the effect for me is just weird, like they're in separate rooms or something.SlightlyMostly wrote:I tried to create a variant of the layout, to see if it improves things.
