*Shrug* Two weeks of off-screen time, in which stuff also happened between Gary and Yuki's father, there were possibly therapy sessions between Yuki and Kiley, and Erik and Zii presumably spent a lot of time arguing over Erik's bright idea.
Previous off-screen events have included Dillon and Matt's bust-up after Dillon caught Matt with Sandra, any and all the tutoring in basic social skills that Zii gave Gary, and (so far) whatever has happened with Sandra and Senna. Nor do we know much about Dillon's acting career of late. The month of double dates was compressed into one strip of visual gags.
Fact is, some shit does go down off-stage in this comic, doubtless mostly where Dave and Giz can't think how to make stuff funny, or when they want to move a stodgy plot along a bit, but also for the sake of throwing us into small and interesting loops. This would be a more unexpected loop than some, but maybe they couldn't wring many laughs out of "Sonya pesters Zii, Zii avoids Sonya".
For that matter, Sonya was confused and bemused when we saw her last, and Kiley had given her a lot to think about - but that wouldn't guarantee that her first conclusion - "I'm in love with Zii" - actually stood up to prolonged examination. Also, it's been
two weeks - quite a long time for nothing much to have happened, and for Zii not to have learned that she had a new problem.
But we just don't know yet. Maybe Sonya, being Sonya, really has taken two weeks to come to terms with her bisexuality and decide to embrace it. Maybe Zii, forewarned by Gary's account of what happened in the restaurant, has been carefully avoiding her up until now. We'll see.
(But probably not on Tuesday. I get the distinct impression of all sort of giant stone balls being set rolling and handles being turned on
Mousetrap game constructions, to start volume 5 with industrial-strength chaos. Whatever the exact design of strip 600, I bet that
someone will be begging
someone for help.)
