It will probably be released annually after volume 8. The Japanese version has slowed to a crawl, what with monthly chapters now being as short as the chapters of a weekly manga series. Not to mention jacking up the page count since volume 5. Add to the fact that holidays mean no chapters some months and promotional chapters like those that advertise the PSP games and the Index movie don't get included in the actual books. That could mean as many as 12+ months between volumes in Japan, even.

We basically have to wait for the Japanese edition to come out first before we can license it. In Japan, a new volume has tended to come out every 9~10 months, but it totally depends on the chapters being serialized in magazine form first.

The question I should have asked is Will Seven seas license the new releases from japan for this series in the future. Personally as a collector who has all the volumes released to date this is the question I hope will get answered. knowing full will it will be tied to how well this manga sold here in the us and many other factors.

Thanks!

Railgun is a New York Times manga bestseller with an ever-growing franchise. As long as Japan keep putting out books, we'll strive to get them out here as quickly as we can.

Seven Seas will be releasing A Certain Scientific Railgun Volume 9 in April 2014.

We've explained this several times now, but many Japanese publishers do not allow advanced licensing of their books. This means that foreign publishers have to wait until a new book is physically out in Japan before they can put an offer in for it. Then it takes time to get all the contracts signed and materials together.

Expect localized releases to be annual from now on. Railgun is a monthly comic that takes breaks and even gets sidelined to promote the authors other works, such as a chapter promoting the Index movie. These bonus chapters do not get included in the actual books, which means it takes so much longer for them to compile enough material to justify releasing a collected volume. Naturally, that means we get to wait even longer for it to be released here.
