Sense8

So does anyone watch Sense8? It's on Netflix, season 2 FINALLY starts in May. Here's a basic rundown for those of you interested or don't know about it since it's about two years old.

Sense8 is about eight people around the world, all from different religions, nations, race, gender, and sexuality. At the beginning of the show, they are all subconsciously linked by (for lack of a better word) a powerful psychic. As the eight people start to have random interactions (i.e. being in a traffic jam and seeing a woman practicing discipline in China), they start to learn about visiting one another telepathically, some through the help and tutoring of an outsider who is like them, but from a different cluster of connected people. They also learn to borrow one another's skill sets and share experiences (i.e. all 8 singing a song while one of the 8 is at karaoke).

Soon, a villain is introduced. An organization looking to lobotomize and use a cannon fodder the sensate (Sense8). Think "The Company" from Heroes.

It should be noted that in season one alone, two telepathic orgies take place. One of which is all male (including a trans-woman). There is also full frontal nudity for both sexes in the season two premier, once in season one. So if you're squeamish about nudity, be prepared.

All-in-all, it's a great show. I loved it and am eagerly waiting for second season past the holiday premier. It kinda flew under the radar two years ago, mainly for how different it is. However, it was made by the Wachowskis, and despite the hate I've heard about them (supposedly racist), I haven't something of theirs I didn't like (The Matrix, V for Vendetta, Cloud Atlas).

If anything, give it 3 episodes. I know 3 hours is too long to give a show a shot, but they make use of the first three episodes to expose not only the audience but the characters as well to this new, connected life.

I'm also a big fan of it! I was turned onto it about a year and a half ago by a co-worker, and I was so thankful she brought it to my attention. I'm also going to mention about how it's co-created along with the Wachowskis with J. Michael Straczynski, who also co-wrote all of the stories for the first season and has a strong hand on the direction and focus of the stories. JMS might be known to most as the creator of Babylon 5, but he's also responsible for many other projects such as the co-writer of the Thor movie and in my opinion one of the best comic book runs of Spider-Man's existence. In the field of story plotting, he's one of the most savvy about the mechanics of storytelling out there. It should also be noted that for the second season only Lana Wachowski is involved, as Lily is stepping away for her own transitioning.

There is so much I adore about this series. I love the representation spread throughout the characters, showing so many people of so many different cultures, ethnicities, orientations, and social situations. What I think I love the most though is how it stresses that as a people we are more alike than not, and that there are so many trials in our lives that many others on the opposite side of the globe can also relate to. I'm looking forwards to May when the rest of the second season is to be released... and I know myself, I'm going to binge watch it.

I'm sure there's a forum where I can talk more about it, but for those of you who saw the Season 2 Premier: Is it just me, or do you think corporeal manifestation is the next level of being a Sense8? Curious how they'll keep all 8 a part for several seasons (that's how long they plan to go from what I hear), and after the last fight in the premier, I definitely wonder. For instance, how was Wolfgang fighting two different guys in two different spots of the parking lot? Usually when one Sensate visits the other, they're basically acting out both parts, theirs and the person visiting. So how can two different fights take place, unless it's just the cinematography to give the audience a sense of how it's more than Wolfgang fighting, even if he can only fight one guy at a time?

J, I think this is the main outlet on the forums... so...

I was wondering a bit about that myself, as in one scene Wolfgang is grappling with one person even as Sun is quickly striking another. However, I took it more as a "creative license of the director" than anything else.

Of all the of the sensates, Wolfgang is the one I'm most concerned about. Outside of his friend Felix, he's the most alone. And with Kala having made the decision to marry Rajan, his strongest connection among their cluster has pulled away from him. I don't think the symbolism is too difficult to interpret at the end of the special with all of the other sensates facing him on one side, showing the distance he's experienced from everything in his life and now from them as well.

Sadly, I have some bad news for you JT... Netflix has decided not to bring back Sense8 for a third season. =(( They announced it the other day, but there are already online petitions with over 200,000 names on it to bring the show back. Considering the amount of diversity and representation offered in the show, it heartens me to see so many fans who appreciated it for what it was. At the very least, I'm happy that a show like it existed in the first place.

Well one can only hope. Netflix has welcomed fans to fight for it, although kinda fucked up. Sounds like a "dance puppets dance" thing to me.
