Ashoka isnt gone for sure, i think that was her at the end going back inside the temple after vador left. I wonder if the third inquisator is as well, never trust a falling death for a force user. Maul must be mechanized under the abdomen ofcourse. The pull of the dark side on our young apprentice is far from over, given that he's starting to open the sith holocron.

Word from the creators though is that Ashoka will no longer be in Rebels

Word from the powers that be indicate that this marked the end of Ahsoka's place in Rebels.

But recently announced:

This is supposed to at least cover the time between her leaving the Temple and being seen in Rebels. Don't know if it goes beyond there, or not.

For a kid's show, every once in a while Star Wars: Rebels really impresses me with the dramatic episodes. Wow. This one was very well done. From beginning to end, they told a good story. The mood, the action, it was all really well done. I think that the longer episodes are more beneficial towards better story telling on this show, as well. I like to gauge my enjoyment of a show with how often it makes me internally go, "Oh!" in over a good moment or twist (even if it doesn't benefit the good guys). This episode had several of those, and tied together elements from The Clone Wars. Showing the steady and inevitable descent of Anakin to Vader towards its end, with how willing he was to kill Ahsoka.

Kanan being blinded, and with the absence of Ahsoka? I see this leading to several interesting developments. Ezra is going to be put into a role of the sole jedi who can always go out into most missions, which means more opportunities for him to be tempted by the dark side. And as sad as it is, I hope that Kanan's injuries helps repair the unspoken yet very obvious relationship that he holds with Hera. Their bond has had many hits this season, and I hope this helps them reach out towards each other and repair it.

I'm bummed that Seventh Sister is already gone, and Ahsoka will no longer be around. Now, I'm just hoping that soon Sabine is given some more spotlight next season. Looking forwards to it!

There have been some rumbling from the production crew that there will be more Sabine development in Season 3. As for Kanan, they have explicitedly compared him to classic 'blind samurai' heroes, and he has shown the ability to see through the Force even before his injury. I'm expecting a bit of drama for a few episodes before he starts adjusting.

I will say one thing, not only are they not afraid to show death, with it often implied early on with the fate of many Stormtroopers and destroyed TIEs, but they have been willing to have it happen in rather brutal fashion. The Seventh Sister's fate was right up there with "Failure will have consequences" back in Season 1.

Not going to spoiler or black out anything, this is already a SPOILER thread :)

You did notice the lightsaber that Ezra picked up? Might he be one of the new "Knights of Ren" that show up in the Force Vision of "Force Awakens"?

He IS going to need a new weapon now, not sure if he salvaged the force crystal from his saber-gun.

the saber is designed with the entent of fighting other light sabre users. so it makes sense it was present in a massive sith vs jedi battle

I had heard, during the run up to TFA that the design was an ancient design, so it makes sense that one of that design would be found on an ancient battlefield. Funny how they linger on that in the trailer, but he simply puts it right back down after a few seconds. And that thing had some really efficient long term power cells. ;)

So, how long into season 3 before Ezra's "new master" shows up trying to get to him again?

From a thread I came across on Tumblr. Started off as just a joke, but the containing discussions:
Loth-Cat:

Maul: You’re my apprentice now

Ezra: ??? !!!!

Maul: Look, I don’t have a lot of time, my biological sith clock is ticking. You go from looking at younglings and seeing targets to picking out booster seats for your sithmobile. Which is no longer a sexy one-seater, I might add, but becomes a flying minivan. What can you do? So are we doing this or what?

Ezra: W H A T!

------------

worriedaboutmyfern:

hahahahah love it

I do want to say I’m not sure this has ever been explicitly laid out but I think in Star Wars there’s a real thing where you can’t progress as a Force user past a certain point unless you take an apprentice. Like you just can’t really understand and really bond with the Force unless you *teach* as well as study.

I mean the Sith are hungry for apprentices even though they know those apprentices will inevitably betray and try to kill them. And Palpatine felt directly threatened by the fact that Dooku had Ventress as an apprentice–that made *Dooku* a threat to *him*.

Similarly Kanan became much, much stronger as a Jedi once he started teaching Ezra. Like I don’t even think it’s just the benefit of having a well-trained minion (although that’s part of it). I think there’s also direct and personal reason that Force users are driven to take apprentices–it increases their own understanding of the Force tremendously. The best way to learn is to teach.

---------------

doyce:

“It takes a master and an apprentice.”

I’ve been thinking about this master/apprentice theory, and I’ve decided I really like it. It’s good.

Then I got to thinking about the finale of Season Two.

Why didn’t Maul just climb back up and kick Kanan’s ass?

Because you need two people to use the elevators, remember? He’s screwed. It’s just like how he couldn’t get into the temple without the key, if didn’t have a partner.

Good point. You can’t do anything in the temple on your own.

Like… escape from the temple at the end?

And I sat up and swore loud enough to wake up the dogs.

Ahsoka and Vader can’t get out of the temple at the end. Not alone.

We see Vader walking away. We probably see Ahsoka walking away in another direction.

But the walls came down and locked them in.

Only way out is together, or they both die.

Ahsoka might be willing to do that. Maybe. Vader isn’t. And maybe he’s strong enough on his best day to get out, but he’s hurt and limping and his mask is jacked up.

Ahsoka won’t say no if Anakin asks her to work with him.

So they get out together. They had to - it’s how the place works. Master and apprentice. One more time.

Vader won’t attack Ahsoka afterwards, because he’s tapped out, beat up, might lose, and maybe doesn’t really want to. (And he’s going to know he didn’t really want to - that’s a kernel of something not-totally-horrible at his core.)

Ahsoka won’t attack Vader, because it’s Anakin, and she can’t.

And she’s not going to go back to the Rebels, either, becuase she knows who Vader is, she knows what Vader is.

And she just let that monster back out into the world, when she could have stopped him for good.

She may never be able to face that.

Looks like he was.

Another thing, I listened to a podcast that had Freddy Prince Jr (Kanan) as a guest. He had a lot of good information about the show.

Fun little bit here, the 'nose art' from Hera's A-Wing during the episode "Protector of Concord Dawn"
