Thoughts on Episode 2 and 3: Okay, getting a serious Magneto / Brotherhood of Mutants vibe off Adam Taurus. That was a seriously cold shot taking out Sienna like that during his coup. I, too, find myself intrigued by Hazel and his possible motivations. Especially since he was confirmed human. I was giving better than even odds that he was a Faunus.

As much as I don't much care for her, it's nice to see Weiss' powers progressing swiftly to the point she can single-handedly take out a fairly powerful Grimm. And the level of control she seems to have achieved at the end of Episode 3 was somewhat surprising. It's beginning to look like Weiss and Yang might be the first pair to meet up. And then Ruby and Blake, interesting how they look like ending up with each others partners.

Ozpin's back story was certainly nothing like anything I had in mind. An interesting form of reincarnation. At least he doesn't have to be completely reborn and gets to skip the whole shitting himself phase. I loved Nora's unimpressed face at Ozpin's leek spin there at the end.

With Oscar, I rather liked his "Wait, what?" reaction to Ozpin saying that he will be doing intensive training himself

But more on him, I rather like how well the animators and VA handled the shift between Oscar and Ozpin. But I wonder, will the resulting merger be "Ozpin" or "Oscar"...

Bit of both actually. The translations I run across are generally "white raven" or "sacred, white raven" in about equal measure.

probably Bran can be used to mean both. probably an offshoot of both having to do with purity.

So, anyone else think that Oscar is a bit smitten with Ruby?

Thoughts on Episode 4: Not much in the way of revelations this episode. Nothing from team WTCH and minions at all this episode. Oscar and Ruby sparring was amusing. Ozpin then schooling Ruby for showing hubris. Finding out more about how Ruby, Nora, and Ren developed their semblances. Nora's was very Nora.

Yang finds Raven and company. Either Yang has really stepped up a level or Raven's minions are not so good. They are stereotypical bandits I guess? Powerful against the populace, but when confronted with an adventurer they get beat like rented mules. A very nice moment between Weiss and Yang at the end, and as Yang truly seems to be residing in a barren field of fucks right now, maybe having Weiss around might help center her somewhat.

One also wonders why Myrtenaster was silver-gray rather than white there at the end. Was it because it was out of Weiss' possession for a time or did the blue-eyed tough girl alter it in some manner? Also, I am assuming blue-eyed, black-haired tough girl is the Spring Maiden everyone is so hot to find. Be interesting to find out more about that.

Okay, Episode 5: Kinda meh. Not really too much to say on this one. Blake and Sun are unable to drum up any support in Menagerie. No real surprises there. Some dissertation on motivations from Blake and Ruby. About the only excitement is the Creepy Mint Twins' machinations for the White Fang. A new character shows up at the end, though. Looks to be interesting, seems to be some kind of assassin. Looks like (Ba)Ghira's message wont be getting through. We'll see how Ilia deals with any conflicting loyalties she may still hold for Blake. Should be an interesting fight. And the first time I noticed Oscar's last name was Pine. So Ozpin is haunting Os Pine. 8-|

HA! Hey, seriously though, Yang has a new arm and Cinder is still doing with out. So Yang is currently winning the arms race.

Now, Episode 6: Several new questions raised in this one. Among them, exactly what did Ozpin do to Qrow and Raven? Is he responsible for their ability to shape-shift? This thought I had a while ago but this episode reminded me of it: I wonder if Ozpin was the hermit / wizard that actually granted the Four Maidens their power in the first place. He is definitely gaining a lot of shadowy sketchiness in this volume as we find out more. I'm getting more and more of a Puppetmaster vibe.

With all his contacts seemingly KIA/MIA, I wonder if this is a concerted effort to isolate Qrow or if this is just the dangers of the job? And if it is enemy action, just which enemy is pulling the trigger. For the first parts of this volume I was under the impression that Raven was out for Raven and her tribe, but for a second I began to wonder if Raven was actually working for Salem. But then I remembered that Salem is looking for her, too, because she supposedly has the Spring Maiden. Then again it could all be a red herring, I'm interested to see where it's all going.

And Huzzah! More reunions. Ruby and Yang back together. For a while at least. As much as I did not care for Weiss in the first couple of volumes, she has been growing on me quite a lot the last three. I'm glad to see her get a little happiness here, too. Now we just need to rope Blake back into the fold.

Nothing from team WTCH this episode either. And lastly, I haven't read, but I assume this volume will be 12 episodes like the last one? Well here we are half way through and still no Neo. Bastards. :ymtongue:
