I just realized... Pinkie Pie broke a promise! That means she has lost a friend's trust! Now she'll lose that friend... FOREVER! :p

She didn't 'Pinkie Pie promise' and without that it doesn't count. :p

I could have sworn, it was supposed to air next weekend ... but it was a nice surprise to see it when I got home from work.

i like the show, it was pretty funny, especially Fluttershy hiding in her house. And why is it that Twilight is the only pony who doesn't automatically bow before royalty and gets away with it? Pinky Pie will be Granny Smith's age and still knocking kids out of the way for free candy :)) I would like to know how she gets the candy unwrapped with her fake peak? :-?

For a good part of her life, Twilight has been Celestia's personal apprentice, and has a much more personal relationship with her. Given how relaxed Celestia is with protocol, if nothing else she probably gave her special permission to not bow all the time or something to that effect. "I cannot have a student who won't look up. You'll be forever walking into things, Twilight Sparkle."

With Luna, even though she's being much more formal than Celestia is, 1) the last time Luna and Twilight met, Luna was Nightmare Moon and Twilight kicked her ass, and 2) Twilight was the only pony who was doing what she wanted, namely not cowering in fear of her.

Nope. If this week was still last week then yes this episode would be next week's, but this week is this week and so this is this week's episode. :p Or to put it another way, this has always been slated for episode 4, for as long as we've known what episode 4 was going to be about. I had initially hoped that the Luna episode would be episode 3, the first episode to air after the pilot was over, but the folks decided not to do it that way, thus forcing us to wait yet another week for this episode. Fortunately, that week has gone by, and the episode is here.

Whereas last week's episode went for manic energy, this week played the whole "fish out of water" situation for giggles and a warm-hearted, "Awww."

I don't know why I find Luna appealing, but gosh darn it, I do. I now claim Luna as my official favorite character.

As for the whole royal "we" and the Canterlot tone, imagine if you were frozen for a thousand years and suddenly awakened. You'd probably sound a lot more alien to the people of the next millennium than Luna sounds to the Ponyville folks. Luna sounded sweet and kind, like her sister, when she wasn't trying to project like a bullhorn.

I agree the funniest part of the show was the whole Fluttershy sequence. Her repeated attempts to get away from Luna were funny, and then when Pinkie Pie showed up and ramped up the hysterics, it was comedy gold. Speaking of Pinkie, she stayed perfectly in character as a chicken the entire episode.

I loved all the ponies' costumes. Twilight Sparkle as Starswirl the Bearded is exactly the kind of costume I'd expect from her. It'd be kind of like someone dressing up as Tesla or Mendeleev and getting all butthurt no one recognized the costume. I raised an eyebrow at Rainbow Dash being a Shadowbolt instead of a Wonderbolt, and Applejack dressing as a scarecrow was a nice nod to The Wizard of Oz. Spike -- doesn't have much of an imagination, does he? It figures Fluttershy wouldn't celebrate Nightmare Night, and I guess Rarity doesn't like it either, since she wasn't in this eppy. Too bad, 'cause I imagine her coming up with an insanely complex Lady Gaga-type getup.

Wow, Zecora really knows how to tell a scary story, doesn't she?

I kinda like the new Pipsqueak character. I wonder if he'll show up again?

I can't believe Derpy got close-ups two weeks running. Of course she'd have a lame bag-on-head costume, then ruin the apple-bobbing by pulling the drain plug.

I do hope we see more of Luna. I can imagine a future episode involving Luna making a pain out of herself because she always wants to be around Twilight Sparkle because they're BFFs and have to spend every waking moment together.

Was I the only one who said, "Yesss!" and did a little fist-pump when Luna pranked Rainbow Dash at the very end? Yeah, RD, it's really funny to cause a friend to choke by badly scaring him.[/sarcasm]

I admit I liked it whan Luna zapped Dash the same way Dash had been doing all night. =))

Rainbow Dash kind of had that one coming for when she got Luna with it earlier. There are times and people for pranks, Dash, but one of the most important lessons is to know your audience. There are times when and people who it's wrong to pull pranks on, and Luna trying to reconcile with Pinkie is definitely one of those wrong times.

Supposedly Rarity had a scene written for her, but it ended up being cut. It sounded like an interesting scene by itself, but added to the ones already present it might have ended up stretching out some running gags a bit too far. Also, not having it gave the voice actress a chance to rest. Luna and Rarity are voiced by the same person, and doing the TRADITIONAL ROYAL CANTERLOT VOICE is probably tiring.

As for Dash's costume, well this was Nightmare Moon night, so makes sense to go with the darkside version... Especially since the Shadowbolts were created by Nightmare Moon.

@Random: Thanks for clearing that up! I wanted to know who did Luna's voice, and now I have Tabby St. Germain to credit for a wonderful performance.

I did a chuckle that they have Derpy hanging out with Carrot Top, who is her fanon friend. But you almost feel sorry for our Dizzy Do (her alt name) in the last few frames of that shot.

As for Tabitha St. Germain not getting to do Rarity, not only is she Luna, but she was also quite busy doing Zecora in there. And the one funny line from Granny Smith. Busy girl.

And now, just for giggles:

Given that, aside from Twilight and Luna, and maybe Pinkie, Zecora probably had the most lines in this episode, that's quite a bit of talking.
