Welp, they weren't kidding when they said Luna's return episode would be "epic".

IT PLEASES US TO SEND YOU TO EQUESTRIA DAILY, WHERE YOU MIGHT FIND WHAT YOU SEEK.

...I should probably go watch the episode now, before making any more spoiler-based jokes about it.

Epic, yes... that's one description for it. I'm just wondering how many fanfiction universes have been obliterated by this one episode.

Luna's quite nice, when she keeps her voice down. She also needs to work on using first person singular rather than the royal we. What has Celestia been doing with her all this time, if not teaching her how the world has changed over the last thousand years?

About halfway through... love Twilight channeling Hermoine when Spike didn't recognize her costume... "Did you read that book on obscure wizards?"

ETA: Finished it. Was cute. Gotta wonder what Celestia has been doing with her sister the past year, though.

Good episode, but like others I'm wondering why Celestia hadn't already brought Luna up to speed. A couple of possibilities:

Luna doesn't use the "royal voice" and such around Celestia, since she's her sister and not a subject. Or maybe Celestia tried to teach Luna how the world has changed and the moon goddess stubbornly insisted on finding out for herself.

Another possibility is that when Luna came back, they fell back into their old roles, and maybe they simply don't see much of each other.

@Ravenhull: I've sometimes wondered if Luna is nocturnal. It does seem reasonable to think that the goddesses of day and night may not see much of each other.

One thing I liked about this episode that I wish could've gotten a little more screen time:

While she's good-hearted, it seems to be in Luna's nature to be unintentionally creepy. I got a chuckle out of how her idea of enhancing the spider-toss game involved turning them into real spiders. Reminds me more than a little of Jack Skellington's attempts to handle Christmas.
The episode-related meme images are already rolling in. I'm surprised not to see more for "The fun has been doubled!" but these are pretty good:

So... can Luna show up more often now? Unlike many shows, I think this episode showed quite well that having a character with godlike powers on the cast doesn't mean they can easily solve every problem. At least not since they're friendship problems rather than physical ones.

And Loren regarding Rarity in this episode:

She was still working on her costume, and perfectionist as she is, it wasn't ready. (I forget what it was.)

There was a whole sequence where Twilight brought Luna to Rarity's for a makeover, hoping she could give Luna a "softer," less intimidating look. Rarity freaked out about get to dress up a Princess and over did it, covering her in the pinkiest pink princess get up ever. Luna disliked it and in taking it off, had a piece of the dress in her mouth. Pinkie showed up just at that moment and screamed that Nightmare Moon ate a princess and all the kids screamed and ran.
