First off, most chefs are male, so Andrew's cooking skill isn't some sort of "reversal," even though the intent with these scenes is to contrast the parents' old-fashioned behavior with Jennifer and co.'s modern behavior. Second, Jennifer and Andrew's relationship is a loveless facsimile at this point; they were forced together by the mission. Third, in Book 4, Andrew tells Jennifer to get bent after Luna is grounded; this is the point where he grows a spine. To follow up, in Book 6, Andrew initiates the sexy-time when the relationship gets serious.
The reversal is only skin deep.
