This might be a spoiler, but could Layla (or her parents, or Dio) turn Tiff, or any other human, if she wanted to?

...and while on the subject, could the weres? And if the answer to either is "yes," can they turn one another?

A question about Layla's powers of resistance

Postby Skytower » Sun Jul 22, 2012 1:09 am

I've spent a few days getting caught up on the two strips, Magick Chicks and Eerie Cuties and I'm a bit puzzled. Why was Layla able to easily overcome Chloe's mind controlling yet she folded quickly when Faith attacked her? Shouldn't she have been able to fight Faith to a mental standstill?
Sorry if this has been asked and answered before.

Could be that Chloe's powers were supernatural/magick, and that Faith's were 'psychic'... or that she was completely caught offguard by Faith, but she knew that Chloe had a potential hold on her. But the most likely answer is need for a storytelling hook, aka, Rule of Drama.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks, but even Layla's mother has commented how tastey/thrilling succubus blood is. With the training she's had I can see Faith not becoming enthralled to Layla, but I can't see her overpowering Layla so easily. I think that Layla should have folded against Chloe but at least held her own against Faith. Or at least not been as pliable as she was shown to be. Makes me wonder if Nina or Layla's mother would be as easy for Faith to control.

Nina would probably fall to her easily, but her reactions to Faith's commands might be interpreted in 'unusual' ways... I would think Maria would have a lot more resistance, though.

I don't know, from the looks of it Faith didn't even put much effort into the attack. Or her attack against Mel. If she's able to take out Mel and Layla with that much ease what chance does anyone have? She not only incapacitated Layla she turned her into a puppet. Kind of surprised that Layla took that laying down. Is she scared of Faith?

the thing is that what chloe had on layla wasn't mind control, it was addiction. layla had to resist extreme temptation & probably some nasty withdrawal symptoms, but she remained in control of her actions & her free will remained intact.

I agree with the above that the thing that Chloe had over Layla was addiction, not mind control.

It also helps that Chloe was hopped up on Panties, which made her very powerful but probably not very skillful or focused. The Panties souped up her powers and made her all crazy, but Chloe still was limited by what she knows about succubus powers.

Faith on the other hand is similarly powerful, but is receiving a formal education in kicking monster ass, and Layla turning up is a practicum for her. Knowing what you are doing goes a long way.

But isn't Layla going to a school that also teaches her how to handle her powers and survive against Faith and Tiffany type of threats? In their first battle Faith seemed to know everything she needed to know to handle Mel and then Layla, how could they not know the danger of going up against a threat like that? How could there be two schools with one training it's students to destroy the other and the other school not knowing or warning its students about such threats? And afterwards wouldn't Layla at least talk to someone about the danger?

Actually, we never seen anything that indicates the school teaching the students how to use their powers. With a student body that diverse, it'd be rather hard; it's better left to homeschooling.

indeed, and faith is the baddest badass at little miss badass's school for gifted badasses. even pantie-powered uberchloe probably couldn't take her in a fight.

When Mel and company showed up Tiffany told them that the school existed to train people with gifts to hunt monsters. In her words "Well you know like us they do have 'gift's' and monster hunting takes all kinds right?"

Which actually makes me wonder why their parents would send them to a school where just being a witch can get you killed.

Their first day they were pitted against espers in combat training.

She is and so is Layla, they are very much the same person. The only difference is that Layla was born a vampire and has to drink blood, I don't see the sadism in her that I see in Faith. I get the feeling that Faith-if she caught Nina-would tie her to a stake in an open clearing before dawn and cheerfully munch popcorn while the rising sun burned her.

And she didn't shake off Chloe's domination, not really, she just took advantage of a moment of free will between fixes.
