Across the whole Pixie Trix world there are currently a number of much more important characters like Cammi, Tracy and others whose presentation isn't remotely controversial.

I still find it a bit odd that somebody who people have suggested has an accent that could be American Deep South, Brooklyn, Italian American or "bouncer" has wound up in Canada when I can't remember any other character (except Gabrielle) "speaking" with an obvious accent but it would be an improbably big jump from that to start throwing around accusations.
Some of us who kind of sound like that have ended up in Canada. My accent is from Connecticut, but it sticks out like a sore thumb in Saskatchewan. It's not odd at all. I meet a lot of Americans here all the time. It happens. Our cat's vet was from Indiana, a woman working at the store is from Washington state. We just don't stand out like some of the other immigrants do. Canadians don't stick out in the US either, unless they are talking aboot the hoose or something like that. ;)
Oh, and I have relatives who are half Italian and half black too, but not from the Bronx or Brooklyn.

For the accent I was talking about DC only because not everybody reads all the comics.
Fair enough, but I could be forgiven for thinking beyond that scope given your opener...

edit: Slightly off topic, seeing as you mentioned Dio talking fancy, would you consider Ingrid from SotR as having a Swedish accent from her speech pattern or is it just showing English is a second language for her? It kind of reminds me a little of the way DiDi formulates her sentences sometimes, as all the conversation in French language in that comic is depicted in chevrons to distinguish it from when English is spoken.

@sparky.

I wasn't so much querying the reality of somebody from Canada having an American accent as wondering why so few characters have accents that the ones that do stand out. Even the characters from Heaven and Hell seem to speak the same way as everybody else (Except for Prudy and her habit of mangling English).

The fact that people had so many ideas about where the doorman was from suggests that it wasn't a very determined attempt to copy any specific accent which just adds to the curiosity of it for me.

@otaku247

Fair enough I can see why you thought that. The opener was just to make it clear that I don't think there's any issue around race in the comics.

As I said in my reply to sparky my curiosity was piqued because accents are so rare in DC that seeing the bouncer speak in one stood out as really unusual.
