an increasingly Mary-Sued Layla
In what way? :-\
In the textbook way. All the alpha males (Kade, Dio) want her. Most other males and a lot of girls want her too. Even sworn enemies (Tiff) fall for her. Her love life is an "embarras du choix" québécois soap opera. In the last two crisis arcs (Doompanties, Quintessa) she's the heroine who, supported by her friends, triumphs over adversity and saves the day. And looks so cool doing it, too.

Brooke (a complex character with tons of sexual issues) was pretty much forgotten. #-o
Huh? Brooke was one of the most fleshed out characters in EC, she had just as much focus and character development as Ace. Entire chapters worth.
No, really? Then tell me: is she straight? Bisexual? Lesbian? Fluid? No-sexual? Does she loves Ace? Layla? Chloe? Tabby? Someone else? Noone at all? Can you answer any of these questions with certainty and conclusive proof? What you call character development was just showing again and again how confused she was about herself and how her sense of identity as a sexual person was a total mess. None of these issues were ever resolved in EC.

We had to wait until recent Ma3 for elucidation. Ma3 finally gives us, through Brooke's adult version expy, a clear and conclusive answer: Brooke is a lesbian, period. All that confusion of hers in EC was just adolescent experimenting.

In fact, judging by Annie's infatuation with Didi, I'm tempted to posit that Brooke's one true serious crush in EC was probably Chloe, as many early hints suggest... but this would be pushing speculation a wee bit too far. :p

Example: at the beginning, the main characters of EC were Nina and her friends Chloe and

Brooke. The story was all about them
No, it wasn't. It was always about Layla and Nina, which is why they're in the foreground of the cover for Vol.Ø. It's also explicitly stated in the page summary at TV Tropes.
Yes, it was. I've just finished reading the whole comic, so my memories are probably fresher than yours. Look here:
http://www.eeriecuties.com/comics/ec20100419a.jpg
This is the strip were Layla starts assuming a leading role in the story... and, at this point, we are already a hundred strips into the comic. This strip is the turning point of the story. Up to here, Layla was the straight man for the main trio's antics. Nina's gang created the problems and solved them, while Layla played the role of the foil. Starting with this story arc, everything changed. From here on, she got to steal the spotlight all the way to the end.
(Incidentally, next strip, she and Tiff meet for the first time. Not coincidence.)

And also, come on: TV Tropes?!? Seriously?

And no more cheap boob gags (and Pandora) getting in the way.
What do you have against boobs (and Pandora)?

I have nothing against breasts, I actually find them very aesthetic. I just get bored with a constant stream of gag humour surrounding them. There is more about a woman than breasts, and there is more to humour than boob gags -- and more to fiction, too.

As for Pandora, she's as much a troll as she's a succubus. She's rude, she's selfish, she exploits people without a care or a twitch of conscience. Her sole redeeming quality is that she wants to help Chloe, and that comes out rarely enough. Everyone else is fair game, as far as she's concerned, unless they have some way of intimidating her.

Different universes, different people. Lynn is not Brooke, and Brooke is not Lynn, regardless the similarities. Given that they are not even the same species and have grown up under such very different circumstances, I'd advise against assuming they are the same on essential points.

Nothing wrong with TV Tropes. While it doesn't always hold itself to a high standard of academia, it has some very insightful analyses and it does have a very comprehensive list of themes that occur in fiction.

Ok, few things to say, but not quoting all the postd

-in the beginning of EC, in the color comics, it was about Nina and her gang. So much so that in the concept art Giz shared from when she was developing characterz Layla was barely in them

-As for Mel's leadership, I'd love to see that developed too. I do think we need MC2 or something. Thoygh, with Giz sounding like she wants to pull the plug on all tbe comics I dont see it happening. Maybe we can bribe Dave inro writing something and getting Jason, Fernando, or someone (what's Mike Shelfer up to?) To draw it.

-I think it's safe to say Cerise and Callie are done. But I do want to see Cerise sit down and think about if she did have feelings. Maybe even apologise (sorrys said in between punches of course). But Cerise definitly needs to officially come out to her friends though. That was never adressed

And Callie needs a new gf. Poor thing deserves it. I no.inate Brooke so both can have a sane relationship, and stter Brooke's bi feelings away from Layla
Pointless arguing is one of the three pillars upon which the Internet is built. The other two are of course cat pictures and porn.

Just so long as Blair doesn't get ten-plus chapters discussing its background and team. Even the other characters weren't interested. :p

Hmm...
Callie and Brooke...
The hunter and the hunted, eh?
Actually, I can see it. It can work. Of course, Callie will probably want to get some tips from Tiff -- who has loads of experience on the subject of becoming thoroughly besotted with the very one girl you have sworn to hunt down, even to the point of going on dates with her and everything... Image

Slight difference; Layla and Tiff went out as friends, there wasn't anything romantic going on between them that I saw.

Being attractive to multiple people doesn't make her a sue, nor was Tiffany ever attracted to her. Both she and the comic's editor (4th paragraph, here) debunked the notion of them being anything more than friends.

Yes, really. What you're asking about is how she self-identifies, which was left unresolved. However, that has nothing to do with what I was referring to, which was her character development.

She went from a shy girl who was insecure about her bust size, to gaining self-esteem once she started dating, because Ace was the first person to tell her she was attractive (seen in the bonus story for Vol.1). We also learned why she chooses to remain in human form, unlike her mother, and we saw that she's strong enough to defeat a trained monster hunter.

Layla was introduced in the first two strips of the comic, and I'd say my memory's pretty good since I've re-read EC and MC several times.

Chloe was barely featured in the chapter you linked to. Her first major arc wasn't until the Chloe-zombie incident, which wound up being resolved by Nina. And her only other one was the Doompanties arc. Beyond that, she made an occasional appearance here and there, but was basically a side character.

And yet, in all the things we do know for certain about their natures and personalities, the expies who appear in Ma3 are the same as the originals... B-)

I wouldn't quote it as an authoritative source on Eerie Cuties, though.

But you have to admit the pairing was incredibly popular among the fans... and that only abated when Faith/Tiff became even more popular... :YMDAYDREAM:

WELL.

I'm seriously scratching my head here at some of the posters here... Blaming Teddi.

WHAT.

The ONLY character that has done EVERYTHING they have done, SOLELY for other characters.

Who went to hell to save their friends... TWICE? Thrice?

Became a woman... to save herself from Chloe, who SABOTAGED the ONLY CHANCE he had to escape the contract?
Became a stripper... JUST to get enough money to live on?
Bedded the students... JUST to get Chloe the best chance of finding a man that can punch her V-card without their dying.

For 2, or is it 3, Chapters now Teddi has ignored the problem of his being damned to hell, simply to HELP CHLOE.

If Teddi were any more self-sacrificing she'd be Jesus.

But some posters are STILL making it his fault?

While simultaneously making ABBIE the "poor little thing"?

The brat that thinks only of herself, has damned her brother to hell already, that has shown NO RESPONSIBILITY for ANYTHING she's done... Who gets protected by everyone else (who all have to suffer for her stupidity, selfishness and arrogance)...

And Teddi is supposed to apologise to HER?

ARE. YOU. F X( CKING. KIDDING. ME.

And now saying that Teddi has to act as her guardian?

Reality Check here.

Teddi is NOT HER GUARDIAN.

Teddi's father, who, if you'd like to remember, is being magically date raped every NIGHT by Pandora (infernal pheromones are basically date rape drugs) IS ABBEY'S GUARDIAN.

But he's somehow not expected to do ANYTHING ABOUT BEING A GUARDIAN AT ALL. All he has done is berate Teddi.

But no. You want to blame the ONLY ONE who would do ANYTHING for their friends.

The one that isn't even thinking about how to save themselves from Hell any more (Just like the rest of the characters don't care any more... I mean, care about saving an innocent soul? When Teh Lulz/New Boobies/ Getting Promoted / Having Fun are SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT)... THAT'S THE ONE YOU WANT TO BLAME FOR ALL THIS?

Meanwhile, the Date Rapist, the Spoiled Brat, the Pampered Princess (oh, I could never sleep with an angel, though it would fix the problem) and the film-flam boyfriend get a free pass...

Honestly, this forum seems stuffed with little Abbies and Pandoras.

That's not a compliment.
I hated Yuki before it was cool.

It may be the Word of Mua'dib, but it's not the Word of God!

Layla and Nina also had parents who, despite keeping a secret of a nigh-apocalyptic magnitude, did love and care for their offspring. I'm just saying, even with the secret, the Delacroix Household was much more stable than the DeCarlo family.
You're not wrong, Layla and Nina's parents were always around after all.

  • 5. Why did the wand choose Mel (of all people) as its next wielder, rather than someone who actually had heroic inclinations, like Tiff for example?

Wasn't that because of who her "dad" was?

The C-verse left a lot without solving, what interests me the most is:

1. Blair's story.
2. We saw in the ending pictures Faith & Tiff jogging together, but we don't know if their relationship advanced further... (and i rooted like crazy for them to get together, specially after they kissed and Tiff vowed to keep Faith in the good side by any means "kissecary").
3. Good Mel in Artemis as President (bad Mel had her moment in the last story).
4. Nina drinking blood now without danger, and how Blair was able to convince the Delacroix family that Nina needed chocolate since "she was born on Easter" what is up with that.
5. Will Chloe ever see Nina and Brooke again? (I guess this one could be solved in DC).
That's what i do... i drink and i know things...

long winded rant
No one is saying all the other characters are perfect; but no matter what his excuses were for doing what he did - Teddy can be held accountable for just as much garbage as the others have done.

Some points you seemed to have missed.

Teddy had only gone to Hell, once; and never went to Hell on his own accord - he was tricked into going there by Chloe, who was forced to bring him there by another succubus who had her under her control via a collar around her neck. He fended for himself and freed Chloe from her bind; but that was the extent of it.

Teddy didn't willfully become a woman for Chloe's benefit - ever. That was forced upon him after his impromptu handjob from a curious 'lesbian' set Chloe's sex drive into high gear. Pandora injected him with succubus blood to hide his essence from Chloe, thus saving his life (Al's injecting the ectoplasm just made the change more permanent than expected - something Teddy wasn't happy with).

Instead of talking to Chloe and figuring out how to handle this new problem, Teddy opted to find Chloe a boyfriend (Chloe's silence on his comment does not mean she agreed with him). Teddy was told - point blank, by Pandora - that no mortal man could survive bedding a virgin succubus. Teddy ignored this fact and whored himself out to the jocks, anyway - because he refused to accept the truth of the matter. Meaning, he was willfully setting some innocent jock up to die a horrific death so Teddy himself (you know, the one who agreed to the contract, in the first place) could avoid it. It took Pandora telling the dumbass twice more that his plan was futile before Teddy was finally willing to accept responsibility for his part of the contract and make plans to become 'the ultimate man' via angel blood.

Teddy knew full well that the girls who beat him up were under some kind of mental influence that made them lust after him. Instead of doing the respectable thing and staying clear of them, he slept with each one repeatedly and later turned them into his personal harem of bodyguards - with the excuse of 'taking responsibility' for 'someone else's' actions.

Sorry - with examples like these, Teddy does not come off as remotely honorable/innocent.

Does that include breaking into museums and using girls he knows to be under supernatural compulsion for free nookie + act as his goon squad? 'cuz that hardly strikes me as altruistic. I'd consider the former to be irresponsible and the latter offense to be manipulative and unethical.

...and would have gotten them killed regardless, had Pandora not told him none of those guys were gonna cut it. Not to mention, Teddy conveniently neglected to tell any of them that he was setting them up for another girl, who'd likely tear them a new one.

Since when? :-\

I've seen Pandora called out for what she's done to Lance and Teddy several times, Chloe's been criticized for seemingly moping around the house while waiting for Teddy to fix her problem, and the past two threads have been filled with posts calling Abby annoying and shortsighted (to put it kindly).
