Gender bender in and of itself is not the problem, changing the focus is.crimzontearz wrote:Am I the only one who is tired of the gender bender story line already?
What I liked about DC was the basic premise: a Good Guy(TM), trying his best to do what he feels is the Right Thing(TM) while getting in over his head dealing with a slew of girls/women that keep finding new and inventive ways of complicating his life. In that context, the gender bending was great -- not only Teddy had to handle a bratty sister, a succubus girlfriend, a demoness live-in, a visiting reaper with a crush, and schoolgirls that consider him an alien or use him for sexual experimentation; but he also had to cope with having a female body that he had no clue how to deal with. And the "fun" episodes (getting a handjob, female masturbation) felt right because the guy was likeable and deserved the universe throwing him an unexpected bone every now and then. Teddy's life was chaotic, crazy, and full of surprises, many of them supernatural; and most of all if was funny, but in a "good" way that made the reader feel for him. Even as a female, Teddy was still the same guy that we knew and liked, and the unintended erotic shenanigans that ensued meshed well with the overall theme.
Unfortunately, having Teddy accept being a (trans)woman and shifting the focus to it, takes the comic in a completely different direction.
