To misquote Ambassador Kosh: "And so... it ends."
Anyway, this strip really needs a caption to the pictures... But, yes, it seems Skye and Rain are together!!
Now, of course, we wonder what has happened to the other MLP expies.
And I'm sure, Gotoh, Fluffy and wiseguy will continue discussing in the "Prez" thread about issues not related to that comic until this board shuts down completely.

Re: Magic Chicks 08-09-15 The End
I'm surprised no one's mentioned how Ana and Dakota seem to have divided custody of the two Mel's. Ana has the dark half (natch) while Dakota has the light one.
Also, I don't think that's Ava with the new student council, it's the unnamed blonde girl with the scarf from before. And Faith is working out with Tiff now.
All in all, I agree that the ending seems rushed, but it was still fun while it lasted. Now all I have left is EC. I might finally start reading AAL to fill the void. Thanks to Giz, Dave, Shouri, Cassandra, and TCampbell for all their hard work on a very entertaining series.

Melissa recombines after she returns from school, so i don't think they have split custody.

Re: Magic Chicks 08-09-15 The End
Wasn't really expecting it to hit so abruptly. Lot going on here.
-So Rain and Skye are back together after all. She doesn't seem to mind he's a boy - he's even dressing as one now. I guess I was wrong about her intentionally speaking in code before.
-Oof, one thing to take Faith's office, but not even letting her back on the council? That's harsh.
-The different Mels each posing with a different mother is interesting... I wonder whether those photos were taken at the same time. Since the Mels clearly live together, presumably they both live with Ana. I suspect there may be some favoritism there.
-I'm unreasonably disappointed that Ava didn't stay shrunk. There was absolutely no reason she would have, Mel being far more powerful than she was then, but still, accidental permanence is always fun.

I just noticed Callista and Gabby aren't either, but Tiff is a new member. I wonder if she's Callista's replacement?Storm-forge mystique wrote:Oof, one thing to take Faith's office, but not even letting her back on the council? That's harsh.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a vote among the newly formed council. And, seeing as the council prior to Melissa's taking over were made aware of Faith's 'making the school into her own personal harem' thing - unintentional on her part, or not - there is bound to be trust issues in regards to the former president.Storm-forge mystique wrote:Oof, one thing to take Faith's office, but not even letting her back on the council? Tandy, Amelia and Tiffany standing by Melissa's side in understandable. Sandi sticking with Melissa is a surprise, though (unless she's chosen to stay there to keep an eye on things for Faith?)
They can have at it; I'm done with all that.Don Alexander wrote:To misquote Ambassador Kosh: "And so... it ends."

So many people complaining about how rushed the ending was. That's disappointing. I personally don't agree - as going into detail how things turned out after the final battle would have felt drawn out.
This ending is rather neat and tidy; tying up loose ends and showing the outcomes without going into a ridiculous amount of needless details.
Please, don't come to me expecting me to fix your problems.

Ava is listed in the tags for this page. Make of that what you will.Gotoh wrote:Also, I don't think that's Ava with the new student council, it's the unnamed blonde girl with the scarf from before.
For those curious: my avatar is an artistic rendering of a spaceship I drew for a primitive (by today's standards) multiplayer online game called XPilot. (More about both on my website.)

A little abrupt, but not a bad ending.
Heres looking forward to Magick Chicks 2

Re: Magic Chicks 08-09-15 The End
Seems plausible. I really never adjusted to the Shouri's style so I'm not sure if that is Tandi on the Council or Callista. Tandi has longer hair, but she usually wears her ninja apparel under her jacket. Then again I cannot recall if Callista was on the Council even though she is one of Faith's best friends. Each person on the Council brings something important to the table so perhaps Faith was excluded due to redundancy. I would think Gabrielle would remain there, but maybe she resigned over Melissa's leadership or perhaps she never really wanted to be on the Council and was just there because Faith insisted. As for Ava's importance the Council probably needs a gopher and since Faith would consider such a position beneath her Ava was happy to oblige.Fluffy wrote:I wouldn't be surprised if there was a vote among the newly formed council. In a way these photographs are a good way of giving us a glimpse of how some loose ends were resolved and letting us fans argue over the meaning.
While this final chapter feels rushed because we were forewarned that this strip was ending from a critical point of view I think it holds up well and so I like it. I am disappointed that Magick Chicks had to end since I think there were plenty of ideas that could keep things going for a few more years and still remain fresh, but fortunately there are loose ends that can be explored in bonus strips and perhaps it might go back into production at a later time.

She was. All members of the student council were lured out into the woods, which included Callista.brasca wrote:Then again I cannot recall if Callista was on the Council even though she is one of Faith's best friends.

Well, that's that. It's kind of a shame, out of the whole empire they have going (Ma3, SDB, SotR, EC, and MC), this was my favorite. It's just a shame the end of the final storyline has to feel like it was just slapped on in a rush.
I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.

Re: Magic Chicks 08-09-15 The End
That... really does seem terribly rushed. Is there an epilogue? If not, well, I hate to parrot a common sentiment, but... geez. It just feels like there are so many things left unresolved. No, not things... characters. What about these characters? Seems like we need more than just a few photos. Like... maybe a LOT more.
For instance, what about Faith? She's gone through a complex and intriguing exploration of her own persona, beginning as a straightforward antagonist and evolving into a layered and somewhat conflicted young woman who comes to realize that she's abused her powers. I've always seen her as a kind of mirror to Melissa, a queen bee who (unlike Ms. Hellrune) was intelligent enough to recognize and contemplate her flaws early in the comic. So what now? After the dust has settled, what does she do with herself? She's been humbled, but she's certainly the sort of person who might take what she's learned and use it to become a better person. So does she?
And also, what about Skye and Cerise? They seemed to have a pretty intense relationship. Is that all just... over? Did Skye suffer any guilt or hardship after Cerise left? She made some terrible decisions and did some terrible things, things which altered her very personality for an extended period, twisting her into a vicious parody of herself, all for the sake of this other girl. Did she try to make amends? Does she miss Cerise? Did she regain the trust of her fellow students? Change her orientation? And Cerise experienced some very profound changes regarding her own perceived tastes. Is she okay with herself now? Does she miss Skye? Or... Callie? Don't tell me Callie's fine with everything that happened...
And then there's the rest of the school. I don't care how popular the new "president" is, can she really just wave a magic wand and say that there are no hard feelings whatsoever? And how far does her presidential authority really go, anyway? Wouldn't the faculty have more to say about all this? The school was infiltrated and overwhelmed by a coven of witches, one of whom is still attending! At the very LEAST, wouldn't they interrogate her to gain information on whoever sent her? There's got to be a limit to how much slack you earn from taking charge of the student council and being the hero of the day!
And furthermore, what ABOUT Melissa? I mean... what is she, now? I hate to boil things down to "good guy" or "bad guy," but... what does this mean for her? Where has her character arc lead? It seems as though she's gone from being petulantly amoral to simply being a fusion between good and evil. In which case... what? Is she true neutral, then? Her two halves apparently aren't going to be in conflict. So what's her motivation, here? What's she going to do with her life? Is she just set to be a perfect gray, neither aiding the forces of good or the powers of evil (or cancelling them out by doing both)? When you choose both sides of a coin, you kind of choose neither. What is the POINT?
I know, there's certainly value in achieving balance, in accepting both sides of yourself and all, but... this is the end! At this point, I expect the main character to be facing one direction or another! Am I being too simplistic? Sorry, but I just can't quite see how Melissa matters in the grand scheme of things! She's going to a school designed to train people to fight supernatural beings. Is she going to graduate and hunt herself? Her old friends and family? Is this all just a lark to her? What is the MORAL, here? This feels less like a lesson and more like an experience, satisfying but hollow. The implications get more vague the more I think about them. To say nothing of the logistics! If she's going to be this perfect hybrid of light and dark, why not DO something with that? Something beyond attending both schools (and to be honest, I'm not sure I get why she's even bothering to continue at Artemis).
At first I thought that perhaps Melissa was destined to bring these two societies together. She was sent on a mission of infiltration to a place which trains kids to hunt "evil creatures of the night." How poetic would it be if she wound up becoming a bridge between the sides of this de facto war? Why not emphasize the value of showing the hunters that those boogeymen are just people like them? She could spark a crucial societal change, ending the hostility and fear with a new generation of monsters and humans shedding the prejudice that governed the lives of their parents and teachers! Maybe one day a new school could be founded, a new world, one with both races learning to live side by side, all because of this girl who learned to see things from both sides.
There's got to be an epilogue. I can't believe the story truly ends here. Seriously.
It's really impressive to be able to walk a tightrope. But you're also supposed to make it to the other side.

Re: Magic Chicks 08-09-15 The End
While it is always sad to see a good series end, it is probably for the best in the long run.
While all the series are good it is also clear that doing all 6 at once along with making print books, conventions, and other real world commitments were stretching the creators to thin. Hopefully with this ending the quality of the other comics will go up or a more consistent update schedule.
