"...a head-to-head breakup contest. The loser becomes the winner's slave."

Well, neither of them won the contest (between themselves), so by some SLIM interpretation, they were both losers. Also, Lucretia didn't specify "winner OF THE HEAD TO HEAD CONTEST" so Sgt. Slash-Stab is doing the proper thing, finding the loophole, and screwing over the participants in the contract. The question then becomes, how much is Lucretia going to "win" from the rest of the weekend's frolics?

I think it most likely that they did not actually tie, one of them did beat the other but because neither came in first Slash-stab just came up with a loophole for fun.

No, Slash-stab does explicitely state they tied.

She wouldn't lie, would she? :ymdevil:

While initially I believed the sergeant's ruling to be arbitrary, a review of the page before the contest's declaration has changed my mind: Valentine's day has a clearly defined winner, "the cadet with the highest tally", while the other contest introduced losers as a defined term (but only applied it to those within the contest). To put it in code:

class Cadet:
# Why am I doing this?
break_ups = 0 # not making a function to define this

cadets = [ ... ] #list of cadets

# "The cadet....spa vacation"

define get_winner(cadets):'
current_winner = sample_Cadet #doesn't matter; sample_Cadet.break_ups == 0
for cadet in cadets:
if cadet.break_ups > current_winner:
current_winner = cadet
current_winner.winner = True

define stupid_bet(idiot, victim):
if idiot.break_ups > victim.break_ups:
victim.loser = True
else:
idiot.loser = True
if victim.break_ups > idiot.break_ups:
idiot.loser = True
else:
victim.loser = True

torrid.break_ups = #something higher than chloe or lucretias
stupid_bet(lucretia, chloe)

This is what happens when you code in a polluted namespace!

That being said, I'm more interested in what will happen in the next contest, now that the shapeshifting succubi with no respect for mortal law realize that they can go after mortals by the hundreds rather than one by one. I foresee increasingly escalating hijinks as time goes by—massed broadcasts, taking over telephone companies, replacing all television with porn, perhaps even time travel. Those aren't the smart ones, mind you. The smart ones will just grift or seduce their way into the finest spas Earth has to offer.

it did seem like the belt only called for a competition between the two of them

belt? I know I know

u meant bet

but Sergeant decided to flex her powers and make both bettors miserable after both made a relief sigh and no other succubi who were 4th and worse place(Lucrecia and Chloe tied for Second) had to do the winner's whims

SS just wanted to torment them and used the bet as an excuse. Just seems obvious to me.

This thread is proof positive of how the internet has successfully weaponized Aspergers Syndrome. Seriously. Look at the number of people in here nitpicking this thing.

Guys, it was a bet between two demons! With a third demon who has consistently shown herself to be both evil and arbitrary overseeing! I know our minds are hard-wired to keep things confined to the specific verbiage, but free yourself for a minute and ask yourself, really, when was "fair" ever actually in the cards?

What an interesting question. What real world experience do we have with demons, that would tell us how they must behave?

And nit-picking? This is a comic forum! What else are we going to do? Reading 3 comics a week doesn't take that much time...

from what has been shown IN THIS COMIC(not elaborating from traditions and via other literary sources)

they use "letter of the contract" to demand payment or at least from mortals, and have a respect for the established regukations between themselves and the angels, and I guessing with other types of beings they also have established forms of settling differences and how they act around each other

Zippy wrote:So, am I the only one who thinks this chapter (if this strip, as it appears, is indeed the end-of-chapter tag scene) was... pretty much a complete waste? Leaving aside the art shift (which was... punctual), the core of it was a series of unconnected and - more importantly - unfunny breakup jokes, it pretty much tanked Chloe as a character, the cameos at the start (Alchemy & Pandora in particular) never went anywhere,...
