I'll note again the suspicious absence of the Tiffany*-inspired part of Layla's mind and I'll make once more the prediction that I believe this is deliberate: the writers are keeping her (the most AWESOME one) for last! 
*now, what would Tiffany represent? If Layla subconsciously registered this event then Tiff will be her courage (and maybe kindness). Otherwise, she could be her desire to relax and have fun and her "accepting"/open side (the opposite of her snobbish side), that gets along (and is friends) with everyone. Or she may be her silly/stupid side.

She did register it, it seems.
Really, the only ones who come across as in any way "strong" here are those who rivalled or beat her (Faith, DP-Chloe, Mel). Ace is small and worthless, Young-Chloe's a coward, Bikini-Nina, Dio & Kade are vapid, jealous, vain and have no self-control, Brooke isn't far behind and Maria's a stereotypical mum.

I wasn't simply referring to the way Layla treats him, I mean the way he gets treated in the comic period. Aside from the time he and Brooke were together, Ace has not caught a break.
