Quite true. It seems her romantic needs are at a high level, but still less than her sense of "duty". And reaping Abby is a gross violation of that duty, so she'll feel compelled to try and fix that mess.

Three words - "stable time loop". From the moment he met his "older cousin" Chloe as a kid, he was doomed to do that deal, or, y'know, his whole life would have ceased to make sense ;)

Oh, and a further thought on something I posted before...

I'm not sure I buy into the "the scythe only harms spectral beings" theory. If that was the case, why did Alchemy say "oops", shouldn't she know her scythe's properties?

Even if that 'twere the case, there's a soul in there that could be harmed by sticking a big, pointy soul-reaping blade into it. So still in the balance.

Moreover, even if it did absolutely nothing to Abby, there's still the trauma of seing a scythe coming to and through her head! Even if it had whacked her with the other, non-pointy end or it did no real damage, someone as Lawful/duty-bound as Alchemy accidentally whacking someone like that seems to be would certainly merit no less than an "oops", at least.
