What I wonder is why Lamia is overwriting Layla's memories? I mean one would think keeping them would be useful to her, unless there is no way to do that without being held back by Layla's morals.

If so then Lamia may well have some truly horrible things planned, as initially Layla seemed perfectly onboard with cooperating with her new memories.

I don't imagine that Lamia is consciously, deliberately overwriting Layla's memories. It's just that this powerful, ancient personality has just come back together, and every time something from Layla's history crosses her mind, she dismisses it as unimportant and childish. So those memories get pushed down and eventually forgotten, because there's always something that's more important to Lamia.
