Option 5: I blame the midiclorians. Melissa is l'il Ani Skywalker except with the ability to ACT well.

Covered by option 4, "whatever force fused us".Mesmer7 wrote:Missed an option: The Wand could be the father.

I like option three. And what that can bring! "I have two moms and two dads!" Can even have a "So which guy was it?!" to evil mom

I was gonna ball park a theory that Tiffany's father was the Heavenly Highwayman. Overwhelming sense of justice and so on. Unfortunately Mr. Winter's hair is black. I will accept maybe Leandro as Heavenly Highwayman but only begrudgingly.

or she's a chimera, with cells of two distinct genotypes living side by sideCFT wrote:Despite the magical universe (where "fusions" of people can happen apparently), I don't think that Mel has (for example) double the chromosomes than "normal" humans (because there are known -quite lethal- consequences for such genetic anomalies). If she's of 4 parents (aka there were two babies before the fusion), it's most probable that the magic just recombined their genes into the final product (not unlike what would happen if the "babies" grew up, hooked up -assume different genres for this example- and conceived Mel in the "traditional" way). Aka, in that case, Dakota and Anastasia are in essence Mel's GRANDMOTHERS (25% of Mel's genes), not her mums.SKJAM! wrote:I'm voting for has four parents option. Someone puts her DNA in a scanner and it explodes.

Wondering which option Tandy prefers now.....
Pointless arguing is one of the three pillars upon which the Internet is built. The other two are of course cat pictures and porn.

She's a tsundere. She cares but wont admit it
Realization jist hit me. Melissa has used the Wand in combat quizzes, ones proctored by Prof Delatorre. He had to have seen it. If he was Heavenly Highwayman, why hasn't he inquired as to how she got his dead girlfriends wand?

I think it's pretty funny that Anastasia and Dakota have no more idea than we do...
Personally I'm still leaning toward the more ambiguous #4.

For those curious: my avatar is an artistic rendering of a spaceship I drew for a primitive (by today's standards) multiplayer online game called XPilot. (More about both on my website.)

Theory 3 (both parents being pregnant at the time of fusion) is a combination of 1 (Anastasia pregnant) and 2 (Dakota pregnant) - although as has been pointed out earlier, being tetraploid in the real world would be lethal, there's a way around it: Mel could be a chimera - a portion (e.g. half) her cells come from one gamete, the other portion (e.g. half) come from the other gamete. With that spin on Theory 3, you could quite literally say she has a dark half and a light half, with no way of separating them...
Theory 4's also technically possible - fuse an ovum from each parent and apply a little stimulation...
A variation is theoretically possible nowadays with lesbian couples: do IVF but insert of injecting the DNA from a spermatazoa, inject the DNA from one parent's ovum into the other's. If you harvest two eggs from each parent, both could be pregnant simultaneously.

@'J' & @mittfh: That's a good idea. A chimera would be a good explanation not only for what Melissa is (if scenario 3 is true), but also of what the fused Anakota was (a fusion at the cellular level is slightly more plausible after all than one at a sub-cellular/DNA level)'J' wrote:or she's a chimera, with cells of two distinct genotypes living side by side

Although a dna test could clear up a lot I'm thinking(barring chimeric shenanigans), I can see why Ana and Dakota might not have gone for that. Neither would want to find out they weren't the mother. Confirming they were both the mother would also be... problematic...
