yeah, it could be that one of them was pregnant and one was not prior to being fused together, but now their baby has genes from three parents. the father could either be unidentifiable, too freaked out by circumstances to stay and raise the kid, or simply uncaring. which would be terrible.

who knows, maybe Hecate, goddess of magic, is the "father".
everything i think of seems unlikely though.
IDK, i give the artists credit for keeping me guessing.

My theory: The wand would up "inside" the merged person, not physically lodged but rather the magic energy. This resulted in the pregnancy. So in a way Melissa IS the wand. The little wand girl is a mystical aspect of Mel, the side of her that is the wand rather than the human.

Thoughts?

depending on how the merging worked on a biological level, it seems reasonable to think that if one or both girls were ovulating at the time, then gestalt-girl might have ended up carrying an egg that contained an X chromosome from each of them. in which case, said egg would immediately begin fusion, followed by mitosis, followed eventually by our girl mel.

I've been harbouring thoughts that are quite similar to your own. It would explain a few things.

It's a thought, but if they're one and the same, why would Melissa refer to herself as "Young Misteess"? Why would she be horrified by the idea of serving herself? Better yet, instead of all the smoke 'n mirrors, why not just say: "hey, I'm you. We're two halves of the same person." :-??

Sure, Mel might not have bought it, but would it really be all that hard for her believe seeing as 'fade-out' girl was showing up in her dreams and her subconscious, as well as in person? Not to mention the fact she's a witch and should be aware that magic makes damn near anything possible?

It may be a longshot, but I'm thinking Ana-kota's gonna reveal she was pregnant with two kids: Mel and Cerise. Mel takes after both of them, but Cerise has Anastasia's looks and a lot of her personality.

This seems the most likely case to me as well. Although, I took it a notch further and considered the possibility that all the immature eggs in their ovaries were combined with their counterparts. Thus, the very first ovulation resulted in a viable fertilized egg...

And would have kept happening every ovulation if they'd stayed together.

I'm sure the queen of the shadow realms used the power of her position the way most self-centered rulers would. So she was probably pregnant before the joining. Still, it pretty much flushes down the toilet the long popular theory that Dakota used the gender-changing orb to get Anastasia pregnant.

I also find it interesting that she seems to have no magical powers, given Anastasia's abilities. And I wonder if every cell was changed, or is she a chimera?

I'd just like to congratulate Cassandra for her art. She managed to make Queen Starlight look like both Dakota and Anastasia without looking more like one of the two. In the same time Queen Starlight doesn't look like Melissa, even if there is some familiarity. It was a hard feat and it's greatly done. :-bd

1) The same freudism, only now not ostensibly derived from a half-good reason, but the opposite: growing convoluted crutches that don't make sense.
2) Considering what the Tacky Wand did to Dakota, Anastasia and Melissa so far, it's pretty unlikely. The worst Melissa herself did to anyone on purpose so far was a short-term spider shampoo curse prank.
3) Nothing that unstylish can possibly be a part of Melissa. Ever. :)

... or vice versa. But it's still possible that one of them was changing for a moment while they were pulled through that rift-grinder thing, and could even fail to notice "minor" changes, what's with being a little distracted.

Oh... oh my! :))

I just think Mel simply has no father in the biological sense.

Also, doesn't this screw with the timeline here? I thought just last page, someone was arguing that preganancy could ot be a reason for Anakota Obscuria Starlighta to survive, as these events were something like 1.5 years before Mel's birth?

Sandi put Musical Starlight's career at aproximatly 18 years ago. Mel is 16, probably not far from 17. Now, assuming a nine month gestation starting at the end of the Battle of Montreal, that would mean the battle was between 16.75 and 17.75 years ago. Not far outside Sandi's given time frame.
Pointless arguing is one of the three pillars upon which the Internet is built. The other two are of course cat pictures and porn.
