For me, it's less about the gender numbers and more about me not being a big fan of the gender bender genre in general, especially when it happens to a character I like.

Darn, it's long been one of my favorites, although it gets done poorly way too often. ;)

Honestly, about the only comic that I read that involves gender bending is Misfile and I'm still waiting to see if the main character will ever be able to go back to being a boy.

As far as I can tell, most girls would love to have a 'cry on command' ability in their arsenal. This one is just a little inconvenient in it's duration, but it makes up for it with actual tears (faking it doesn't always work).

Cry on command for two hours though... that's not a minor inconvience, that's and eighth of her day.

Anyway, I'm about to use words that I never thought I'd use: what Mellissa just did is one of the sluttiest things I've ever seen in fiction. What a heartless bitch.

She's must desperate. Other than Ace, Ash is the only boy she's even talked to since her transfer, and we saw how bad that went, even before she accidently turned him gay. And this may nt just be her acting out of pent up sexual frustration. Her whole life has been turned upside down. She could just be trying to in some way reconnect to what she's familiar with rather than what she's been forced into.

I stick to my take that Melissa isn't a bad person. She must makes bad decisions sometimes.

Ah heck, people keep forgetting that these are teenagers. Not much more than children, but suddenly finding that they have sex drives and various degrees of sexual attractiveness, plus an overwhelming sense of their own importance and a belief in their own immortality.

I'd add "...and these teenagers are also monsters or monster-hunters, which makes it worse", but that's just a metaphor for the teenage thing anyway.

I find it quite hard to despise them, even when they're acting despicably. I more just hope that they'll grow out of it.

...Anyone else think that portraying one of the only instance of 'unwanted touching' as 'young girls feigning sexual assault for manipulative reasons' is INCREDIBLY harmful writing? The fall-back that "Young girls fake sexual assault for their own selfish reasons all the time" is why the excuse of "She's making it up!" is believed over the girl's testimony in an astounding number of actual abuse cases. Fictional characters acting that out strengthens the cultural impression that lying about assault is the norm, when it is in fact a minority of cases.

I'm just.... in disbelief that this comic would perpetuate that inaccurate stereotype that harms actual people for a gag, to the exclusion of actually addressing the issue of sexual assault of young women. Yesterday I decided to register for the forums to start a discussion about the prevalence of manipulative young female characters in these comics in the general discussion thread... but the more I think about this particular example, the more upset and impatient I get.

I wonder if other people came to this thread to see if it was being discussed. So I want to add that here before it gets glossed over in future pages.

Yeah , can't really argue with that. It's very manipulative and extremely distasteful. And yes, it will get glossed over.

I wouldn't gloss such a thing over. However, there's a big difference between an errant hand slipping an inch or two as compared to sexual assault. Which is much less friendly than the event portrayed here.
