Keep in mind that traditionally in the west marriages were not made out of love, it used to be said that there were two reasons one should never marry. One was out of lust and the other was out of love. Those were reserved for your lover. It is possible that Maria will suggest that Layla continue on with the marriage and become Kade's Mistress. Brought up in these modern times it would be doubtful that either Layla or Dio will see it that way. Of course this is speculation and suspect I am wrong. I am throwing the idea out for discussion.

This is why I love Celtic marriages. . .so long as everyone agreed, you determined who the head of the household was by the property they owned and then you could marry as many people as you could afford to keep up. . .however, the important point is that you had to have permission from all people in the marriage.

The Greeks noted that there were several instances of three person marriages- some where F/M/M, some F/F/F others M/M/M, and so forth. Under those conditions, Layla could always marry Dio AND Kade.

How could their be an all female marriage in any city state in ancient Greece? Greek women weren't citizens and couldn't own land or enter in to contracts (at least not in Athens, but I don't think the other City-States were much more highminded).

Gil,

The Greeks noted that there were female/female and male/male marriages in the Celtic lands. There is even an account of three men who shared a house who apparently were all married to each other.

Ah, you meant among the CELTS. That's something I can buy, since they weren't nearly as misogynist as the Greeks and Romans were. Not that the ancient Celts were hugely wonderful to women, but at least they could own property, inherit, and some sort of status in politics.

Yeah. Over all, the Celts were better about women than most of their fellow civilizations, but they weren't perfect.

Not necessarily. Remember, the Delacroixs are European*. They tend to not be as uptight about nudity as Americans, and also, from my experience, can desperate it in their minds from sex. That's why topless girls on the beach aren't uncommon there. Also saunas and bathhouses, where going naked in front of other members of your sex are normal in some countries. So yes, Layla is embarrassed doing something silly (getting in the tub without checking) and being all lovey dovey with Kade, but seeing her mom naked may not be embarrassing to her, and certainly doesn't seem to be embarrassing her mom.

* yup, it's been stated Eugene is French. Maria we don't know, but between her name ( in french it would me Marie) and that Layla only said her father, not parents, is French. So Maria could be from elsewhere.
Pointless arguing is one of the three pillars upon which the Internet is built. The other two are of course cat pictures and porn.

:( Well! All I can say is that I'd have never guessed it was Kade on the other end. Seriously, when did we ever see Layla talking to him like that? Maybe the authors have a perfectly good reason thought up, but this seems like a big Out Of Character moment.
Don't worry. It'll be good for her.

True enough. I've never understood why anybody would want to be wearing clothes when visiting a sauna and when I was still living at home the family would use the sauna together nude. There is nothing erotic about it, but nothing embarrassing either.

Of course this doesn't apply to all Europeans - Aquila is from Hungary if I'm not mistaken and while I think they have public bathhouses in Hungary where there is no nudity taboo, he doesn't seem to be comfortable with that concept. Could it be that humans are different?

Don't say generalizations about Europeans, it's a rather diverse place. I'm European, and my parents and I don't see each other naked.

Layla is more uptight about nudity, as she was shocked when she lost her bikini top. And even if not for the nudity, it's still an embarrassing situation.

Whoops, ninjaed. I haven't been to bathhouses, but I go to the beach every summer, and nudity is not common there. The public beaches have cabins where you can change. When I was in Croatia last summer, I was rather surprised at first about the topless women on the beaches.

Sorry, I deleted my post. I think I mixed up two different threads since I'm going out to get a pizza now (and that's distracting). But that's a valid counter! I'll just repost it here so people quoting me here don't look like crazy people.

On this one, I'm actually with Aquila. . .I've read a few too many stories out of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc, of girls forced into arranged marriages who are in love with other boys and who end up meeting horrible fates. So, the question is, is Maria more modern thinking than her husband or is she going to push for the arranged marriage?

And, Giz, you just killed a week's worth of speculation :((
That's the exception to the rule. Most arranged marriages are successful compared to the "random marriage" style system and the Middle East doesn't practice forced marriage these days as a policy. When it happens over there, it's in the same firm category as "That Guy With 15 Wives Who Lives In the South!" and "BDSM Fetishists"; it's a 'thing' and sometimes you see it at your local Denny's, but it's hardly the hot new thing all the neighbors are doing.
Aquila89 wrote:Remember, at first he wanted Ace to pretend that he's Kade so she could get out of the marriage. That implies that saying she's in love with someone else would work.
To be fair, that was more a 'thing she does at school for her own benefit,' not a 'thing she tried to trick her parents on.' Which would be sort of neat, actually, if Mama Delacroix remembered: "Kade is the werewolf-with-fake-hair-girl your little sister had a crush on?"

Billboards these days are worse.

Stalker girls who take secret pictures of boys and try to crop out the girl, now that's uncomfortable. That's some borderline creepy stuff right there, Chloe...
