I read it as Maria talking to whoever is on the other end just before she hangs up. She is talking about Layla when she says "she".

Maybe we are about to get a dose of truth (or not) about the ugly-side of inter-species (for lack of a better word) relationships.
A monster may be free to spend time and date anyone they want while they are young, but ultimately for the sake of family, honor, magical/physical abilities, or just plain genetics, they may be unable to make babies with anyone outside their group, making marriages (or at least baby-making) very serious business.

I know...I know...it's a ugly thought, but it may be the one downside (other than being hunted by the rest of humanity) that balances the benefits of varying degrees of invulnerability and immortality. Also,having a negative side to monster society could add some nice drama and seriousness to a otherwise comedic universe. :-B

No kidding. I assumed it was Layla at first, but the older look combined with the uncharacteristically peppy words made me think it might be somebody else. Either way, it quickly became apparent later who it was.

My first thought (following utter confusion) was Tiffany as well, only because her relationship with Kade is... not this.

The "Seriously though, hang up!" sounded a bit commandeering, so odds are it's Kade. I guess that even defrosted Layla will always retain that particular trait.
