I think this is the set up for the real main funny in this arch. Ace has no reason not to correct Kade's assumption right away, so is the main funny a running gag of Nina preventing him from telling Kade about her crush or Kade being overly paranoid about Layla finding out about it? Both can so easily cause unbelievable grief for poor Ace, just a different person as the one causing it.

I like the Kade angle better since the idea of Kade pushing Ace into a relationship to distract Nina is a whole lot more likely than Layla doing it.
