Ace better watch out, because he might have a little competition on the horizon. :D

I think the spark died after trying to keep "Kadie in heat" out of trouble.

Yeah, it looks like Brooke must have had enought of Kade to last a lifetime... But hey, if he does get back to normal, Brooke's hormones might have a different idea! ;)

Now, something funny that nobody seems to have commented on: Brooke talks about "have your personality overwritten by magic"; but that didn't happen to Ace when he got girlified! Guess that says a lot about Kade! :D
Don't worry. It'll be good for her.

Here's a question: why everyone seems to be sure that the lady who opened the door is Brooke's mother, rather than older sister (there may be other relatives too, but those are two we have seen)? Of course, given that they are shapeshifting nymphs or half-fairies or something like, it can be hard to tell, but still. The only clue pointing toward this we have is that 8 years ago said sister used to let her hair grow long.
In half-serpent forms: Brooke; Brooke's dark-haired sister (to the right); Brooke's mother.

Agreed that we don't know that the woman (see below) who opened the door is Brooke's mother, however....
TBeholder wrote:Brooke's dark-haired sister (to the right)

There's no indication that that is Brooke's sister. There are (that we can see) three girls besides Brooke at her party, and no indication as to who any of them are.

I have to add that in my experience men who habitually refer to women as 'ladies' do so in order to grant them 'special status' which, in practice, means not giving them the same rights as men. As in 'You don't have to worry about that. (We men will do it for you, rather than let you do it yourselves.)"

There's a clear indication of what they are. So, direct relatives is a most-likely assumption, since we didn't see or heard of other Melusines around. Besides, the very fact that we can't tell which one for sure demonstrates that she may have inherited the looks from her mother.

I won't claim to read anyone's intentions, what's with lack of telepathic abilities. But have to add that human gentlemen tend to refer as ladies to the females of their and related species. Which, as probably anyone using any of widespread human languages knows, is a common language device of displaying respect via ascribing a position or pseudo-title of power to the other party. Which by extension other gentle-beings (such as we chthonical arthropoda out here) use in the same sense.
Conversely, the entities who habitually exhibit aggressive reactions at any references to the sexual dimorphism among the chordata (whether they belong to or not - sometimes it's hard to tell) usually are the ones who prove themselves to be far outside of "gentle-being" umbrella of basic mutual politeness. In practice.

Seriously?

Then I'd best stop addressing my audience as Ladies and Gentlemen, since it seems I'm ascribing special status to both men and women and denying both genders their rights. Leaving rights only to... I dunno, hermaphrodites and asexual beings?

OK, I screwed that up pretty thoroughly. (Probably serves me right for posting when I'm not really awake.) So -

I withdraw, and apologize for, any suggested judgement or criticism on my part of any other member of this forum.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the words "lady" and "ladies" (for instance, in the formal address to a crowd: "Ladies and Gentlemen").

I should have said: I have encountered a few men in the mid-western US who say "ladies" in a context where most of the people I know would have said "women". I'm not a mind-reader, but "actions speak louder than words" and these men's actions have not been consistent with the idea that men and women are equal. They are consistent with the viewpoint that men are superior and should make the decisions, so I find it reasonable to infer that that is what they believe. Their words are respectful, but their actions are controlling.

Now, getting back to the comic, all three of the girls at the table with Brooke are visibly melusines. A good guess would be that they are all about the same age and come from four different families, but for all we know melusines normally give birth to four children at a time, and they are all sisters. There's nothing (that I see) on this page that would argue for or against either of these scenarios. The main argument against the "quadruplet" scenario is that the other girls don't have tags, and don't show up anywhere except this flashback (that I can recall).

Yeah, no big deal. I see what you're saying. Still, you should be careful when making sweeping generalizations.

Also, men from the mid-west? There's your problem right there :)
