This tickled me from a science point of view. What is a small amount of blood? I GAVE you an unreasonably tiny amount of blood. A half pint a day is nothing in terms of caloric intake. If the 450 calories a liter number for blood is correct, then a half pint of blood is less than a can of soda in terms of energy intake, making vampires vastly more energy efficient than humans are.

The point is, what the hell makes you think their metabolism at all resembles humans', or even animals' in general? Yes, if you sat down and drank a pint of human blood, it would be a smallish meal, but if it were that simple, they wouldn't need blood in the first place. Clearly there's some sort of magical essence they feed on that's transmitted via blood, and there's no way to tell how much of it they need except from their behavior in the strip, which, frankly, doesn't give many clues. The best clue is this guest strip, which suggests that she eats at least once a day.

Though exactly how much blood Layla sucked out of each of them is hard to gauge, especially since both of them are different kinds of monsters, with different kinds of magic-influenced biology.

Let's face facts, people. We have very, very little information to base any conclusions about the particulars of a vampire's diet. We have seen Layla at lunch both with and without a thermos of blood, so the necessity for blood at every meal, or even every day, is unclear.

And as far as the question of whether vampires breed or not, This strip is very suggestive. First, the marriage was arranged when the kids were infants, so the Delacroix parents either bred them, or stole and turned them as babies. Second, Nina clearly has her daddy's hair, though I suppose that could be "maaaaaagic".
